  1. There's been other games where the standings are in a similar situation, but now there's less games remaining, so this game is higher stakes. In my opinion, this is the most important game of the year so far. And we're up 4-0! Couldn't be more satisfied. For some reason, the errors make it feel more like a pennant race game, like because it adds controversy and frustration to it I guess.
  2. We need a name for that pitch that's like a 2-seam fastball but breaks a little more, like some of Clemens's pitches have done so far. Power Screwball? If Buchholz gets it together this start, will Red Sox Nation give him another chance?? It might be too late, but when a team is desperate for wins sometimes it can't care about the past.
  3. Hmm Shaw does amazing when competing for a spot with Sandoval. Then Shaw becomes just an average player for 3 months after getting the 3B spot (and not having much competition). Then Shaw lights up again when competing for his spot with Moncada.
  4. If 2 guys reach in the 9th, Moncada will get another AB. Don't turn off your TV yet! Kelly looked about as reliable as Kimbrel. He can throw as fast as Kimbrel. Watch out Kimbrel!
  5. Moncada debut is really exciting. He gets a standing ovation in Oakland, doesn't swing the bat and walks. Made a great defensive play and showed great speed. Time to see his first swing if we can get through enough of the lineup to give him another AB!
  6. Nice, I'd be open to things that are not jerseys if there aren't jerseys available. Info like this is helpful.
  7. Lol @ Lyons's reply to the 32,776 attendance: "That's why we have the number already; it didn't take long to count them. 17,000 of them Red Sox fans." And the stadium... Oakland A's are especially lame recently.
  8. I really want a Red Sox jersey that is the same color green as the Green Monster, with red text and numbers. I don't want one that is Celtics green; I only want Green Monster green. I have not been able to find one so far. Has anyone ever seen one or heard of this as a thing? I know that you can buy Green Monster paint so I'm surprised that what I want is hard to find/doesn't exist.
  9. Ahh shield your eyes from the football markings!
  10. danget this reminded me how much we need to get Ortiz in the playoffs one last time. It's been almost 3 years since he's been in them, and this year is a rare chance to see how much damage a 40 year old legend can do when put in a few clutch playoff ABs.
  11. Oh look the Yankees are suddenly 2.5 GB by some miracle. That's not enough to make Jordan's Furniture scared yet, but it's getting interesting, that's for sure.
  12. According to mlb.com's postseason probabilities in the standings, the Red Sox have an 84% chance to make the playoffs, but the Orioles only have a 41% chance! Seems like a massive gap for two teams only a couple games apart. It's probably due to remaining schedule and projected performance.
  13. Wow, what an incredible game. Actual clutch hitting! Time to make ground in the AL East now that the Jay's and O's aren't playing each other. The Jays play the Rays though, and I don't think the Rays like beating the Jays as much as they like beating us. We might have to sweep the A's to gain ground. As long as we don't lose ground in the next series, we should be able to crush the Padres (Don Orsillo reunion?) and gain ground then. Going back to this game, the thing I most couldn't believe was when the outfield assist from Betts to 2nd prevented the run because the runner going home slowed down thinking he'd score easy! Seriously, that is ultra lame for the Rays, like the opposite of a bat flip.
  14. It doesn't feel like we need Puig with the huge amount of outfielders we have. We have everything covered offensively in our outfield when everyone's healthy, and we're just going to shove Puig on the roster? We should be going after bullpen pitchers. Puig being on the cover of MLB '15 The Show is the main reason I didn't get that video game. He would likely grow on me if he became an everyday player or something but it seems like forcing the talent level up in a way that doesn't fit by squeezing him on the team, even if we lose someone to make room.
  15. At least when we play the Yankees, it brings back fun old memories. When we play the Rays, things just get ugly. That was a brutal slurve by their closer.
  16. If the Red Sox lose, then everyone will shut their TV off and the Jimmy Fund post game show won't get much viewership. If the Red Sox win, then people will tune in for it and the Jimmy Fund will raise more money.
  17. I thought he was probably safe. They could have been looking at it a while, but wanted to wrap it up quickly.
  18. Didn't look like that bad of a pitch from Pomeranz. I guess the weakness of his curve is that it's hittable when predicted correctly?
  19. When I went to that D-Backs game recently, the crowd would always do this thing when a high popup was going to be caught by the other team; they would make a loud cheering noise that got increasingly louder as the ball got closer to being caught, to distract the fielder from catching it. It actually appeared to work in that game on Holt's fly to short right when the fielders miscommunicated and it fell between them (coincidentally, that was a pop in the same spot as Ramirez's hit just now). I wonder if the crowd did it again here. At the very least, the loud noise thing makes it harder for players to communicate about who is going to get the ball.
  20. Buzzkill almost challenge at the end. Can't wait for that to happen on the last out of a playoff series. The series ends by a manager standing on the top step looking back and forth awkwardly.
  21. If our new MLB comissioner goes big government and forces all ballparks to get rid of their quirks, we should replace the center field triangle with a cave for Buchholz to live in, and he comes out of it whenever it's time for him to pitch.
  22. If we somehow win the World Series this year, we'll be the crankiest champions ever. After all the crap we've been through and having overcome it with brute force, we'll say "Finally, got through that dumb season on top somehow. Don't bug me for 3 months, because I'm going to bed."
  23. World's stupidest popup. Could have been a very different inning. That more than evens out our luck this game.
  24. Unfortunately for Rodriguez, Red Sox fans may have used up most of their "he just came back from injury so he's rusty" sympathy on Wright. The pressure is on for Barnes.
