  1. You're forgetting his $25.5 million signing bonus.
  2. Based on what? Lackey's having one of the best years of his career.
  3. Bogaerts is the better prospect and it's not even close. Cecchini is a slightly better contact hitter and has slightly better plate discipline (Bogaerts is walking more as a younger player at a more advanced level). Bogaerts does everything else significantly better: hitting for power, playing defense, running the bases.
  4. Who the hell cares? I care about the production players provide, not this feel good personality ********.
  5. Yeah, I don't think Loney would make sense. There are a ton of quality first baseman free agents available next year, but the one that would interest me the most is Mike Morse. He's having a down year, so we'd be buying low. He has the versatility to play outfield in a pinch. And he'd make a good soft platoon partner or Mike Carp. Doesn't make sense to sign a lefty firstbaseman when we already have one. Morse vs. lefties - .303/.358/.515 Carp vs. righties - .287/.327/.447
  6. If we could center a deal around Cecchini and Ranaudo, I would do it in heartbeat. Both of their values are sky high, but Cecchini has questions about his ability to hit for power and his defense and Ranaudo has questions about his consistency and ability to stay healthy. Both players got off to scalding hot starts in the minors this year and have now started to cool off. They're both pretty close to being top 5 prospects in our system, but we would be selling high.
  7. Players "fly open" or "cheat" or "bail and wail" as a700 said. But that didn't sound at all like what jung was trying to describe. Jung's really been all over the place on Middlebrooks, comparing him to Carlton Fisk, Joey Votto, James Loney, etc. At first he said his problem was that he didn't pull the ball enough, now he's saying his problem is that he pulls the ball too much. He comes off as a guy who's trying way too hard to show off baseball knowledge when in reality he's just kind of making it up as he goes along. He's way over-analyzing these things to the point where he has a new reason why Middlebrooks is struggling virtually every week.
  8. Hahahahaha You kill me Freddy.
  9. That is very true. And a package of Cecchini and Ranaudo is probably the equivalent of two top 3 prospects on the other teams that are interested and could afford Lee.
  10. Yeah, if Amaro hangs up the phone because we offer Cecchini instead of Bradley, it's just a personal preference. I think it's great people are this high on Cecchini, his stock is sky high right now.
  11. You said if we offered a positional prospect whose name doesn't start with B, Amaro would hang up the phone. Bryce Brentz is a positional prospect and his name has two B's, I think Amaro will really like him.
  12. Bryce Brentz is is. Amaro will really like him, he has two B's!
  13. This isn't really on topic, but Jose Conteras has struck out 7 batters in his first 3.2 innings with Pawtucket. His overall numbers this year: 27 IP, 1.33 ERA, .089 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9, 11.3 K/9
  14. Cecchini is definitely one of our top 5, Ranaudo's pretty close.
  15. I would do that in a heartbeat.
  16. Yes, in fact it's the complete opposite tune. He officially said Cliff Lee is available today. I suspect he's going to expect a crazy package of prospects and it wouldn't make sense for us though. I'm talking about Xander, Bradley and Cecchini. I would consider Cecchini, because he has relatively little power, plays poor defense and his stock is sky high right now. Bradley and Bogaerts are going to play a big role in our immediate future, however. And they don't really have any major flaws.
  17. You're a little late to the party. This was discussed about an hour ago in the Shoring Up the Rotation thread.
  18. I think they expect to try to spend their way out of it with a new TV contract. If it works out, great. If not, at least they'll build buzz and put fans in the stands. Baseball teams are a profit making endeavor afterall.
  19. No player drives their hips to one side of the field or the other with the pitch. That would be impossible to do in the less than half a second a hitter has to react. Jung, this is why people give you a hard time. You just make stuff up and then don't back down when everyone points that out.
  20. They certainly don't need to trade him. We'd probably have to give up a legitimate prospect like Cecchini to even peak the Phillies interest.
  21. They're getting a new TV contract soon, they could be the next Dodgers.
  22. If we're going to give up prospects for a starter (still not convinced we need to), I'd much rather it be for Lee than Peavy.
  23. 26 I think. He would have been a good guy to have, but like I already said I don't think he would have been much help this year.
  24. Phillies signed Gonzalez to a $50-60 million deal.
  25. Is this Taylor Swift icon any better?
