  1. No one said its going to be easy. People are saying that its necessary. And it is. You really want the worst SP in baseball out there for us next season? Its going to be very difficult to get rid of him, but thats one of the first things that has to be done.
  2. We sure needed one this year. Where was Varitek when all this nonsense was going on? Why wasn't OUR Captain in the faces of those goons who were downing frosties in the clubhouse when the ship was sinking? IMO the captain is the guy who will do just that: maintain some level of discipline amongst the players; someone who the guys respect and will listen to when he talks because he is known as a hard working successful veteran who has been in the organization for a while. While its not necessary to have a captain, I do think that its very useful. We had a captain this year; he just didn't do his job, the job he accepted when he agreed to wear the "C" on his jersey.
  3. Having no captain is fine with me, but who goes to homeplate before each game for the coin toss?:harhar:
  4. I wonder what goes on in the Yankee clubhouse. My guess is that its far more professional than ours is. As much as I hate the Yankees, I respect the way they conduct themselves, for the most part. Jeter exemplifies what it means to be "professional" at what he does (with rare exceptions); so does Mariano Rivera. I doubt Girardi would allow that kind of nonsense to go on in their clubhouse.
  5. The medical staff also sent Pedey back out there before he was really ready last year, only to realize their mistake and sit him back down. I am glad it didn't get worse as a result of that error.
  6. Sounds reasonable to me. Maybe a newcomers thread in the Off Topic area would be appropriate. Why limit ourselves to just former Sawxhead posters? This is not to exclude anyone, just to help find one another since that seems to be an issue. I am not sure of the rules here yet, but go ahead and do it. Good idea IMO. Brennan, I am embracing this change. I think that sometimes change is good, as you know from what I have posted over there.
  7. From what I read Crawford was becoming increasingly shocked at the lack of professionalism by the team as the season wore on. He became increasingly withdrawn. Its tough to function in that atmosphere. I am more than willing to give him one more season. He is a talented athlete and could turn things around. But that stance.....it looks bad. Maybe he could fix that this offseason.
  8. IMO that counts since he had a direct hand in the results. From what I understand, Theo is not involved in negotiating the compensation the Sox will get when he leaves. The draft picks that have already been made during his tenure he should get partial credit for, shared with his scouts.
  9. We should have made the playoffs once it was Sept 3. But we were going nowhere once we got into the playoffs because we had no pitching. We finished NINTH in overall ERA in the AL. Frankly, I am glad it turned out this way with the Rays in instead of us. If we made the playoffs none of this would have happened and we would have been at least one more year away from a ring.
  10. I started a thread in the "Off Topic" area so that we don't come here and inadvertently behave badly by these rules. The forums are different. No politics here, I see. People have been banned for discussing politics; and no political threads. Here profanity seems tolerated; on Sawxheads it was an issue with this year's moderator. Last year's moderator didn't care, but he was an a-hole
  11. This comment on Crawford was, at best, ill advised. I will give Henry credit: at least he opened up and tried to answer some of the accusations being leveled at the team by the media: This Friday, he was on Felger and Mazz exchanging verbal blows, ripping apart whoever revealed the personal stuff about Terry Francona and ruining whatever motivation beyond payday Carl Crawford will ever have in Boston. His line about not supporting the Crawford signing will have some major repercussions. Crawford will be playing in Boston with whatever is left of a $142 million chip on his shoulder for the next six years.
  12. Here is a link to the audio of a part of Henry's interview. Its long, and he sounds half asleep. I don't know whether to believe him or not. Some of what he says sounds fishy. http://www.boston.com/sports/blogs/thebuzz/2011/10/audio_john_henr.html
  13. From Sawxheads. Right now I think there are about a half dozen of us here: IPOT, ELKTONNIC, BRENNAN, FRED, MUGGAH, and me. More are on the way. That forum was never as large as this one. A significant portion of like-minded individuals who really could see little wrong with the club got tired of the debate and formed their own forum which will have "very strict rules" according to the person running it. To me, that means censorship. I prefer an exchange of viewpoints, so I am here. Appreciate the welcome.
  14. From what I can see, its a respectful eclectic group. Good discussions; little rancor. You need both sides represented to have an interesting discussion Fred. How incredibly boring it would be for everyone to agree on everything. Thats what will happen on the new board. More power to them. Since you are not a Dodger fan I don't think that will be an issue here, hopefully. Unless the King tosses me off, I will probably be here most of the time.
  15. So you are saying that his role in scouting young talent is equal to his role in scouting free agents? You know that is not true. He negotiates with the agents of the FA personally; he signs off on the draft picks. Totally different level of involvement. I will give you a point on his trades; most have worked out well.
  16. Welcome aboard Fred! Glad you could make it. Hope the beach treated you well.
