Doubront needs a shut down inning right now. The Yankees have a habit of responding to runs scored. And I would like to see him throw more strikes.

The Yankee bullpen is very good. We may still need more runs. Doubront has to pitch the game of his life. Six innings minimum.

I wonder if they would be signing Marlon Byrd if they were certain that Ellsbury is coming back this season. I mean, what are they going to do with five OF when Crawford and Ellsbury join Ross, McDonald, and Sweeney? By Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff The Red Sox are closing in on a deal for Cubs outfielder Marlon Byrd, according to a major league source, who said the deal was not yet done. Byrd is playing center field for the Cubs and has gotten off to a slow start, 3-for-43 (.070). The Red Sox were exploring all outfield options after Jason Repko was injured Friday. The Red Sox don't appear to believe they have options available at Pawtucket. The Sox are currently playing with a few fourth and fifth outfielder types because Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford are injured.

I would like to see him gone too. You are right: he is part of the problem. He set up the Cherington vs Valentine battle. Thats just plain stupid.

I realize that there is already a thread about Bobby Valentine, but this one is a bit different. Its not so much about a running commentary on him as a poll (I could not figure out how to actually start a poll here) on his job assessment. The people who post here are some of the most knowledgable fans around so I think its probably a fair assessment of RSN as a whole. Please vote only once and since there is already another thread for ongoing discussion about him it might be best to reserve long commentaries for the other thread. I will tally up the votes in about a week and post them. Here are the choices: A: Valentine has done as good a job as can be expected, given the circumstances he was handed. B: Valentine has to be given more time to form an accurate job assessment. He has been here roughly four months and that is simply not long enough for me to grade him in an intelligent manner. C: Valentine has done a poor job. He has made mistakes both on and off the field and deserves to be fired

Cherington never wanted Bobby Valentine to be hired. He will do what he can to get his own man in there instead. Note that in the article the Giants GM backed the manager. Did anyone hear Cherington backing Valentine here? No..instead, he hung him out to dry. Cherington is a vestigial remnant from the Epstein era, the era that got us to where we are today. Its going to be nearly impossible to win another ring until Cherington is sent packing.

I think that "rebuilding" takes different forms for different teams. Teams like the A's have to unload all their salary and obtain tons of draft picks. This can take years. But if you have as high a payroll as we have rebuilding means that you can still have a winning record but have to get rid of some contracts to really compete for a ring. Having that much money guarantees that you will always have some talent on your team, much more so than teams that have little money. I think we should obtain pitching pitching pitching. And that will be available at the end of the year. If we can get quality pitching for Youkilis or Beckett I would make that kind of trade.

Its Freddy "The Vulnerable One" Garcia vs Felix Doubront, who is going ot pitch the game of his life tomorrow. Win this game and we still have a chance to win the series vs the Yankees. GO RED SOX!
