  1. He could be. Or 5% better . The point is those metrics aren’t THE absolute number. Best to look at them as an approximation.
  2. Maybe he thinks that baseball metrics are like algebraic formulas. I think that as long as they are within about 5%, maybe a little more, that has to be considered the reasonably accurate.
  3. He'd be more valuable if he could limit those HRs. As a back end SP he's OK. There are many SP on the roster this year who rank ahead of him, fortunately.
  4. Dude, give me a break. Those metrics are not spot on accurate. A 2% difference is insignificant.
  5. I don't see that changing much. "Little Raffy" is more accurately called "Little Bradley".
  6. You don’t have to humiliate someone to punish them. There have for example been a couple of times when my performance wasn’t as expected by my employer so they docked me some of my bonus. I have seen other employees be put on probation or be assigned less desirable job assignments. Ghis stuff happens all the time. A combination of the “ carrot and the stick” is probably the most effective way to modify behavior.
  7. I believe his OPS at Fenway is 1.240 though it’s only in 21 games. I too would have preferred more power. Vlad is a FA after this year. He’d be someone worth pursuing. Still, I expect a decent improvement over the past few years performances.
  8. The FO did the job imo. It would have been better had they signed a more productive RHH but Bregman is ok. I believe he had an off first half but was better in the second half. They improved their SPing and should score a bunch of runs if they can stay healthy. The pen is always a crapshoot. At least they’re trying. It’s not a championship caliber team yet but they have several very good prospects nearly ready to make the jump. Henry finally loosened his purse strings. I don’t see this controversy as a major problem.
  9. Of course I have. Many times, including personally. There are usually consequences for screwing up in life.
  10. Fact is, we don’t know if the switch was discussed with him before the interview or not. If it was discussed and he’s publicly stonewalling it, that’s a mistake on his part. “ No comment” would have been better in that case. If this wasn’t discussed earlier then he has every right to be pissed-then calmly agree to do what’s best for the team.
  11. It’s likely going to work out just fine. If Devers showed up significantly overweight that’s a problem. He’s paid enough to show up in shape.
  12. That communication issue is on management -if that’s what happened. But it changes nothing as regards the best position in the field for both players. Bregman at 3rd where he won a GG and Devers at 1st (or DH). That also leaves room for Campbell when he is ready. The team needs to focus more on winning games than massaging someone’s ego.
  13. I’m certainly willing to see how it all plays out once the season starts. As long as Devers is flexible….
  14. Obviously I can't speak for others but I am not "mad at him" at all. That said, I don't think he handled the news conference well at all. A simple "no comment" would have been much better. And flat out refusing to move to 1B or DH, at least initially, wasn't a good move, even if he wanted to express that to Cora privately.
  15. It might, but thats sort of beside the point-unless Devers is already unhappy about his just signed contract after looking at what Bregman got.
  16. Its a last resort, but one I would keep in my pocket. He can "demand" anything he wants, but he isn't going anywhere. He just signed a HUGE contract. If he refuses to play his assigned position then he can be suspended without pay for "conduct detrimental to the team". Lets see how long he lasts in that scenario. Again, no one wants this to happen, but at the end of the day its a TEAM sport. Personnel decisions are not made by the players. They are made by management. I have confidence that Cora will work this out with him.
  17. Hey-there are no games to get worked up about so this is all we have!
  18. I haven’t seen any quotes from him indicating that the news conference (or any discussion about it before the deal was done) was the first he heard about a potential move to 1B. Do you have that quote from him? The only quote I read from him is that “we talked about it”. Didn’t specify when. if there was no discussion held with Cora before the news conference that’s on management.
  19. Nobody’s hating Devers. I think he’ll come around. I think he is upset that the team is considering moving him to a position that better suits the needs of the team. That said, he didn’t handle it well. Refusing to accept management decisions about where he will play and voicing that emphatically to the media was a mistake. A better way to handle it would have been a “no comment” while this gets worked out internally. From what I hear the team has a bright prospect who is a 2B and three years of Bregman could block him if he has to play 2B.
  20. I didn’t hear that. If it’s true then management should have handled it differently. They didn’t have to ask Devers’ permission to sign Bregman nor did they have to mention he might be the 3B to start the season but communication is important. Regardless, Devers needs to suck it up, and I think he will.
  21. Benching him is a last resort, but it IS an option if he can't do what is best for the team. Its not his job to make management decisions. He needs to suck it up and try 1B. Where he plays in the field (or DH) is beyond his pay grade.
