  1. That would be pretty cool. Bauer seems like he has a lot of upside, but he's a totally into doing what he wants to do. The thought that maybe someone could whip him into shape would be nice. I don't really know what Arizona would take for him though.....are they having enough problems with him where they just sort of want to get rid of him? I mean, obviously for the right price, but yeah.
  2. I definitely think Nieves deserves a shot. While he's never worked in the majors, people need to start somewhere. The one thing I have promised myself that I will do is give Farrell and his coaching staff a fair shot this season, so we'll see what happens. It seems like he had a plan in mind when he went to make this staff, and it also seems like he was able to get some guys that would help him carry it out well. Now lets hope Cherrington gets a pitcher or two that are decent so this club at least gets a fair chance.
  3. It is getting really old. It's like they keep putting Upton out there seeing how much they can milk him for, and then pull him back when it's "not enough" or whatever. Kind of seems like there won't ever be enough. With Greinke off the market, I'd sign Hamilton and forget about Upton too.
  4. This wouldn't really surprise me a whole lot....hopefully he'll be a full time catcher for Lackey when Lackey first comes back at least, get him broken back in with someone he knows.
  5. This really sucks for the game of baseball.
  6. Hearing that the Dodgers might be in on Sanchez too makes me want to stay away. No need to get in a pissing match about price with them over him and end up doing something stupid.
  7. Edwin Jackson not costing a draft pick is a great reason to sign him. With the Dodgers supposedly in on Sanchez too, he may end up getting even more over paid than people thought he would in the first place. I think at this point Jackson is probably the best option for the Sox, while still considering Jurrjens as well for a Spring Training invite.
  8. Six years and $145 mil on him and I'm going to be laughing my head off all night. Granted, he's the best on the market, it's really ridiculous seeing teams overpay this much just because someone is the best on the market.
  9. I'd assume they'd like it to be Moreland realistically speaking. Heard talk of them moving Kinsler over to first base.
  10. Beckett was certainly a back end starter last year. Or he should have been.
  11. Definitely true. Still, adding a guy that can go out and really lock it down day in and day out would be great. Someone reliable you can almost always expect to put a W down when they're out on the mound. Still, I agree they can be competitive without that.
  12. No one would, this is true. Fact is, we gave him this money before he had the surgery (not saying that it was a good deal then either, but yeah). That is what happened. You said it yourself too, no one will be interested in him. May as well hope the best, even if it doesn't happen.
  13. Agreed. While I don't think that it's exactly what this team needs, it'll make them decent. It may be the best case scenario for them on the market this off season.
  14. I always feel so bad for this guy. Quality player and Texas has pretty much gone for the last three or four years and told him they didn't want him, only to get him to agree to change positions and still put up excellent numbers all the time. Hopefully he can go to Philly and have a consistent role with them.
  15. It's still probably best to buy your tickets in advanced sadly, especially if you care about where you're sitting. I got out to a game in September and tried to get tickets day of, there was only standing room left. Granted, it was by far the cheapest I've payed for Red Sox tickets in a very long time. As for bars before the game, most people will tell you the Cask N Flagon. There's a ton of bars on every corner around the park though, so if you're just going for drinks they're pretty much all going to be the same....over priced, and over crowded. I do however really enjoy the Cask N Flagon if I'm having dinner and drinks there. I also enjoy the roof deck at Remy's if it's warm out that day, they got fans blowing mist and stuff. As for bars not around the park to just go to, it really depends on where you're staying. It's pretty hard to not run into a bar that'll have the game on in this city though.
  16. I like this idea of Doubront/Lackey competing for a spot and all, but for some reason I think Lackey gets that spot even if he doesn't pitch better. Assuming nothing incredibly strange happens with Lackey, I can't imagine them paying him that much to come out of the bull pen or something (granted I'm sure a lot of us would love that).
  17. I'd imagine they end up adding a few. They'll add one that's like Jackson/Sanchez/Dempster (really hoping it doesn't end up being him) and probably do something like they did last year where they give guys a shot and look at them in Spring Training. The good thing about this year is, both Jurrjens and Marcum etc. have a million times more upside than guys like Aaron Cook did last year.
  18. Hopefully they just decide that's the best deal they'll give him and call it a day on him.
  19. I'd say that Fox on the West Coast is already starting to do a decent job. The Dodgers are getting talked about loads more than they used to. These TV deals work in an interesting day.....you have a ton of money to spend now because of huge TV deals and networks, and then these huge networks end up talking about you. Really bought the Dodgers their way into the spotlight.
  20. Just read this a minute ago. This is too bad really. But holy crap the Diamondbacks have a lot of good and really young arms.
  21. I'm going Salty on this one. As someone above mentioned, he swings the bat good and everyone starts to love him. It just kind of proves that offense sells mentality, which sort of sucks, because pitching and defense win. This is especially important when it comes to the catcher behind the plate. The worst part about this is that I think a little more time in AAA would benefit Lavarnway, at least at the start of the year. Get away from whatever happened to him when he was up in the Majors last year and get a clean start. Not saying it has to be a ton of time in AAA....just a little. That would make it difficult to trade Salty though.
  22. This definitely was some of the reason the bullpen went downhill last year. They got things sorted out after that first month or so and pitched pretty good in actuality. Then they were stuck pitching 6 innings a game all year and it seems like it just killed them (there are a few cases of guys who were just bad too, but yeah). The fact that the Sox bullpen could be this good, assuming everyone pitches to potential, is kind of exciting. It feels like its been a long time since other teams would be a little nervous facing us in extra innings.
  23. While it would be horrendous to see Dice end up somewhere else and start pitching very good again, I don't know how realistic that actually is. He has a ton of work that still needs to be done....just his lack of consistent time on the mound over the last couple of years means a lot needs to get done. At that, he's aging, and has always shown control problems, a lot more frequently lately. I'm also a pass on Dice, not to discredit the good years that he did have.
  24. I could see them back loading a contract. As someone mentioned above, they could let Cano go, and it certainly seems like they will let Granderson go. That way, they could cheapen up on him for this year and next, and then get creative with other stuff down the road from there. They're certainly capable of getting him, and I assume this is how they would do it even though I don't think they've ever done something like that before. Granted, this would really be banking on them and the prospects they have close to breaking in working out good it seems.
  25. I really wouldn't mind the Sox giving McCarthy a shot, he'd been a pretty solid pitcher, at least since he landed in Oakland. Granted, it seems the Coliseum probably did him favors that Fenway won't just by looking at his numbers at a glance. A good look at him in Spring Training wouldn't be a terrible thing. Same thing with Jurrjens really. This isn't to say that they don't need to add another arm through free agency or a trade, but I'd have no problem with McCarthy and Jurrjens getting Spring Training invites and either sent to AAA or released if they didn't work out.
