Cafardo was saying that the Phillies are willing to part with Cliff Lee. He would cost less prospects but is older. I still think he has some stuff left in the tank but we shall see. One prospect nobody seems to mention is Brentz. I bet if he didn't shoot himself we would be having a different conversation.
The sox signed one of Moncadas friend. I think this was more of a move for him to make Moncada feel comfortable in the States rather than a legit baseball player
I think that Castillo will surpass BSN's predictions as well. Here is his stats from only 10 games with the Sox last season. .333 batting average, 2 hr, 6 ribi. Barring injury, I expect him to have a great year.
I don't see how you guys can think that Wade Miley will have a 15-10 record. He has a career record of 38-35 pretty much a .500 pitcher in the National League where he has a pitcher and the number 8 hitter who would be number 9 in the AL. You also have to take into account the pressure that comes with playing in Boston.
This Ranaudo trade is a head scratcher. This is a guy the Red Sox paid over the salary pool for which they drafted him. I saw him pitch on the Cape and really liked him. Sad to see him go. Texas got good value here.
Maybe these chain of events could lead the Sox to grab Zimmerman, I don't know what kind of prospects they would be asking for but I don't want to include Betts, Owens, or Swihart.
Besides the money, the fact that Lester faces a pitcher and will not have to face a dh will help his career numbers. I bet his numbers will look much better un the NL, I think his ERA will be in the 2s
If the Red Sox lose the bidding war and the contract is made public, Henry and Luchinno will make a statement about how they offered the same money and Lester just chose against the Sox. This will be a PR move for the fans.
If it comes down to the red sox and cubs, I think the sox have the edge. Lester has a history with Farrell and the players. Chicago is a few years from contending and why would Jon want to waste his prime years on a rebuilding team when the sox are built to win now.
I don't really see the big deal in losing Miller. Relievers in free agency have always been a crap shoot. Last year was Millers best year of his career and I doubt he will be able to repeat that.
