We need someone besides Aceves to close games out, but Bard I don't think is the correct answer. I don't think he should pitch in the setup role anymore either. If they're going to stretch him out to start, don't put him back in the pen.

Papelbon is a great closer, but Philadelphia is going to glorify his numbers to such a degree that they won't even look real.

Now that Byrd is on our roster, at least Aceves won't nail his face off this season.

Seems to me that Bard will be in the pen temporarily. Valentine speaks pretty highly of him starting, and doesn't seem to want to give him up in that role. I guess it all remains to be seen however.. Oh, and 500th post!

I'd rather see them march DMac to the outfield every day and fix the bullpen instead of them trading for another outfielder, especially when they give up a potential arm for said outfielder... Oh wait...

The only thing to be worried about is the bullpen. The starting pitchers will come around, and for the most part some of them already have. Buch looks shaky, but I'm positive he will regain his stride. The offense has been good, and the defense has been adequate, adequate enough to win us games. The bullpen gave up a 9 run lead and turned it into a 6 run deficit the other night, no one else did that.

If I put in the work to score nine runs, then watched the bullpen give up 15.. I'd probably say f*** it too.

Funny how Valentine seems to be on a kneejerk hook, or he lets the 7 run rule play into effect. I mean yeah the bullpen sucks, I'm surprised that half of the guys in there aren't also named Mark Melancon. Cherington thought he was making some good moves this winter, and thought he had gotten some good bargains. s*** happens. Blame Melancon.

If Youk can pull it together, trading him may not be the worst idea. I'd rather hang on to WMB for a few years than trade him for an impact player now, because the Sox are going to need a good 3B. Youkilis is getting older, and he can't even play a full season. I say don't excercise the 2013 option on him, let him sign somewhere else.. Maybe he can hit in the NL.

A few bullpen tweaks would likely get the job done, once Crawford is back we will see Ross and Sweeney platoon, and we'll be seeing much less of DMac, especially once Ellsbury is back. Bailey being out sucks, but we all pretty much expected it. Melancon just needs to go away, unless he can somehow miraculously turn it around, but it doesn't look likely at all. -
