  1. Giants non tendered Wilson.. I know we just NT'd Hill and Atchison, but I think taking a gamble on Wilson to close if Bailey goes down, or closing instead of Bailey, wouldn't be a bad idea. And yes, I know he's a post-op pitcher.
  2. Mo money mo problems?
  3. Why does everyone assume that when someone suggests going for someone if they lower their asking price, as someone else assuming they want to come to Boston on a discount?
  4. I'm thinking they maybe should go after Sanchez, if they can get him to come off the contract he is asking for, he would be a great addition to the rotation.. not a true #1, but still a very good starter. Then if they sign someone like Haren, Dempster, Marcum, etc. to round out the backend of the rotation, they might not be in such bad shape. Sanchez Lester Buchholz Haren/Lackey Lackey/Dempster/Marcum/Doubront/Morales That isn't too terrible really.. Dempster did get roughed up a bit in the AL, but he's a very durable starter. His stats suggest that he didn't pitch that bad in Texas, but the ballpark there didn't help his numbers. I think a move to fenway would be an improvement for him.. Maybe something closer to his 09-10 numbers. If he could be had for less than the three years he is asking for, it might not be a bad move.
  5. Already counting them out of the postseason??
  6. Should have just signed Papelbon...
  7. I'm thinking LaRoche is at first, Salty is the starting catcher, Napoli goes back to Texas.
  8. I see Zach Stewart isn't making the rotation next season. I wonder who the PTBNL from the pirates will be
  9. I mean if we're looking for bullpen help, I think I'd rather take Wilson over Madson, if Wilson doesn't resign with the giants at least.
  10. If we could get 2009 Mark Reynolds that'd be great.
  11. Not a terrible idea. He's lowered his strikeout totals quite a bit over the last couple years, but his average has dipped too.
  12. There is a button that says quote at the bottom right of their post
  13. I feel like something is going to get done at the meetings coming up, at least I'm hoping.. I think it's going to be the Napoli signing and the trade with KC though. Maybe not much else. More offense, as usual
  14. That may be one reason why it hasn't happened yet... I think he'll get his money, but it may be awhile.
  15. It was more or less a figure of speech. I'd rather see someone like Hamilton start, than have to see a platoon with Nava, etc.
  16. Even though I'm against the long contracts, I wouldn't really be opposed to seeing the Sox go 5 years on Napoli, or 5 years on Hamilton. Hamilton has concerns, but I'd still rather see him starting than Daniel Nava.
  17. If the sox start signing guys like Marcum and McCarthy to 1 yr high AAV contracts, that's still a much smarter move than the approach to pitching depth last year. Of course they do have the flexibility to do this now, and not necessarily last season. I'd also go as far as saying it's a smarter move than signing Anibal Sanchez to a ridiculous contract. He may be one of the best free agent pitchers available, but the years are long and the money is high. I'd rather see them take some shots on some real comeback options, not some deadbeats like last season. 2014 has a better free agent class, and even if they aren't as competitive this year if they don't get someone like Sanchez, they maintain the payroll flexibility to really grab some talent next year. As a lot of you are saying, they shouldn't mortgage the future, again. At least we aren't seeing them throw away players who were useful to get 6 million in salary relief. Or signing Carlos Silva.
  18. If the meeting took place with JH there, I think that means Napoli will be in Sox uniform pretty soon.
  19. Any chance we get Gomes in left and Ross in right?
  20. I'm hoping the priority really is pitching this offseason. It seems a lot like they are spending too much time signing backup catchers and monitoring Hamilton instead of eyeing pitchers in trades or free agency. I'm not saying Cherington should have given Jeremy Guthrie 25MM but still, we haven't had a single pitching acquisition yet, minus the pitching coach. Starting to look a lot like last offseason, I wonder when he'll start signing the retreads..
  21. I feel like the Ross signing is too much like the Shoppach signing last year. I feel like he'll see limited time behind the plate, with Salty dishing out his horrible defense and going up to K every 2 1/2 plate appearances. according to MLBTR Ross is going to have "more than a backup role" which gives me hope, but we'll just have to wait and see.
  22. I'd take Hunter over Ross at this point. Ross at 3/25 is absurd.
  23. Cody Ross says the Sox never came close to a deal with him, and that it makes sense for him to listen to other teams now
  24. They probably think Bard can regain his old self somehow.
  25. Agreed. The fact that it was for Marmol just adds insult to injury
