  1. Amen. In the end, it's still a game and there are variables beyond how good a team is on paper. Just look at last season with the NYY dominating the AL-E and then not being able to do anything in the post-season. Look at the Tigers and countless other examples. At what point do we (the players mostly, but fans also) get away from throwing in the towel prior to the games being played (based on how the team is on paper compared to others), and start fighting to the death and playing with heart? I understand that some teams just can't compete vs. others who are fall more talented than they are in terms of odds/averages...but the Red Sox aren't some terrible team with nobody's who can't play or who are completely inferior to everyone else. It sounds all Disney Mighty Ducks'd out and all, but to a point playing with heart and determination regardless of the odds/averages/competition must play a role in the outcome of the season/post-season etc Good point.
  2. Yeah jung I hear what you're saying with respect to Iggy... It almost seems that unless you shine brightly and play better than expected when you're brought up, you're sent back down pretty quickly. The good news is, if you truly make the most of your opportunity (ie: Will Middlebrooks), you can earn a spot. Same with Pedro Ciriaco, guy came up and just played awesome. Iggy comes up and can't seem to do play well. Lavarnway played awesome the year before last when we brought him up, but last year couldn't do much of anything. No doubt your point is valid, though. These guys would most likely get good, but just can't seem to do so right away and need more time/trust etc Word
  3. Yeah, everyone is on the same page/agreement there...I am just saying that if the Napoli deal fell through, I would like to think that we would match/beat anyone's offer on Nick
  4. lol yeah - same deal
  5. No doubt.
  6. If the Red Sox didn't have so many different holes to fill I could see them 'making a splash' with Hamilton. Otherwise, it just wouldn't have made sense. We already had a similar contract in Crawford and it didn't do anything to improve the team.
  7. I personally wouldn't mind if the Napoli deal feel through and we went full out to get Swish regardless of his being a contract longer/more expensive than we wanted to get involved with. We can just have Nick be the everyday 1st B guy and use the surplus of catchers we already have. Mind you, I just have a feeling that Swisher would be more productive and a better all-round investment than Napoli...at the same time I am not hating on Napoli.
  8. Agreed, jung. In the end, it's still a game and anything can happen. Spending the most on the best players just increases the chances but can't guarantee the title. I think it looks good on teams regardless of the sport who spend the most on the best and end up losing to an underdog team who beats them for whatever reason. Edit to note that teams who don't at least make some good investments/efforts just end up spinning their tires and making little or no progress (ie: my Buffalo Bills lol).
  9. Would be amazing if Kalish could transform like Reddick did. I agree about Cody Ross, too.
  10. Voted yes in this case to money = success. Just because I hope they end up a disaster, they will be awesome.
  11. Lordsnow is Alfredo Aceves IRL. Just cause.
  12. Word. Mind you if the Napoli deal falls through, I don't think anyone will give Swisher a better offer than the Red Sox.
  13. Bump in hopes that we still have interest in Swish. Would be awesome.
  14. Back on track, what is the deal with Napoli not being official yet? Making me nervous.
  15. Unless he comes back and does awesome. Unlikely yes, but not impossible. Odds are that he will do what Dice-K did.
  16. Could be worse...You could be a Toronto Raptors fan. DeMar Derozan FTW lol. For real though, love DeMar.
  17. These are my exact sentiments on the subject. On a different note, I ran into a guy today at IKEA who noticed my Red Sox cap and started talking to me...He said he was a Yankees fan and named his daughter 'Jeter' LOLs
  18. Salty because he isn't defensively capable. Elsbury because he is good as gone after next season anyways. Get something for him while we can. Melancon because he is terrible. Prior to last season's blockbuster, I would have said Beckett and Crawford.
  19. lol, yeah really
  20. Could be. I was all for retaining Cody Ross - trust me. I am just making the point that regardless of what happens, someone is going to say it was a mistake. If we would have kept Cody Ross and never acquired Gomes, people would have said "Cody Ross was a mistake, we could have had Gomes and he would have been worth the extra, he is better" etc.
  21. Let's hope that Hamilton would want to play in Boston over Seattle. Assuming of course that we could deal Elsbury and that we even made an offer to Hamilton. Boston might rather just pass on Hamilton altogether and look into making a deal to strengthen the rotation. For all we know, Boston isn't interested in Hamilton, and Hamilton isn't interested in Boston
  22. I think that Ben makes as many decisions on his own as the president of the USA does. The guy is a puppet and I highly doubt that he calls any of his own shots. Could be wrong, just my opinion. I base that opinion on no real facts/evidence but just a hunch. Aside from not being able to acquire Swisher, not getting an awesome starting pitcher, and not dealing Elsbury while we can get something for him, I am happy with the moves made so far to rebuild the team. I was also hoping that we could have dealt salty, too.
  23. I am a big Cody Ross fan, and still don't think it's fair to act as though Gomes is a step down from him. In reality, if we retained Cody Ross all together...What are the odds he would have even been able to be as productive/successful as last season? I doubt he could replicate that year, honestly. People would bitch and say we could have had Gomes. The grass is always greener, eh.
