  1. It means if he doesn't produce results as the Hawk "He gone".
  2. Who knows why they didn't fire Cora? In any case, transferring LaVangie can not be seen by Cora as anything but a warning shot across his bow. Ignore it at your peril.
  3. First things first. Sox fired their Chief of Baseball Ops. Firing both DD and Cora and the entire coaching staff may just have been seen as a bridge too far.
  4. Cora is supposedly the one who wanted LaVangie as his pitching coach. Cora actively supported LaVangie's approach. No matter how once spins it this has to be seen as a FO rebuke towards Cora approach toward pitching in 2019.
  5. LaVangie was moved out but he was given another job in the organization just as I hoped and indicated would likely be the case in a previous post. While Brian Bannister the ass't pitching coach who reportedly opposed the Spring Training approach to pitching was given the job of VP for pitching development in the minor leagues. Sounds like he got promoted to me. Cora may still be the manager but it looks like the FO hasn't given him a ringing endorsement on the way he handled pitching this past year. At least that is the way it looks to me from my point of view.
  6. Lucchino got dumped because Henry always dumps those who are no longer of use to him. Likeable or not Lucchino deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. His contributions to the game by transforming baseball ball parks nationwide, probably saving baseball in Baltimore and saving Fenway Park in the process, dwarf anything his detractors have accomplished.
  7. Really! Do you honestly think that Red Sox fans in Boston would tolerate house cleaning? I don't!!
  8. Almost useless is not the same as nothing and neither is the 20 plus million in salary dump if your goal is to cut payroll and get below the lux tax thresh hold. BTW before you bloviate that the fourth round is "Almost useless" you should check out the historical record of major leaguers who were drafted in the 4th round or later. I find it more than ironic that we are talking about JD Martinez who was drafted in 2009 in the 20th round. He was pick nbr 611
  9. I know everyone loves to dump on Lucchino but one must give the devil his due. Lucchino work in getting Camden Yards built arguably saved baseball in Baltimore and caused a revitalization of the game at the major and minor league levels. He did much the same in San Diego. Lucchino is also largely credited with saving Fenway Park from the wrecking ball. Finally a reminder to all those who vilify Lucchino for his treatment of Theo remember it was Lucchino who brought Epstein to Boston in the first place. Lucchino may have been a tough not very likeable SOB but that what it takes to deal with all those Maryland Californian and Massachusetts poiliticos to get projects done. Epstein and Cherrington for all their baseball talents simply aren't in Lucchinos league when it comes to that side of baseball.
  10. There has been a great deal of speculation that the Sox actually want him to opt out. They could make a Qualifying offer which he won't accept of course. Then there would be draft picks. So if JDM does opt out the Sox do get a salary dump which isn't exactly nothing, at least not in respects to JH's current thinking.
  11. Can't trade JD if he opts out, and he will opt out IMO
  12. I believe Farrell's name has come up in respect to one of the managerial openings. I suspect Farrell would hardly be interested in a pitching coaches job while there is a possibility of being a manager again.
  13. I think it will be a question of priorities. Firing an ass't hitting coach isn't as significant as firing the pitching coach. While I think LaVangie will be reassigned within the organization. I am sure that whoever is in charge now or later has some idea of who they would want to replace him if not the individual per se at least the type of philosophy and qualifications that individual should possess. I hope the process of finding and hiring a new pitching coach will not be done in haste. I always thought hiring LaVangie was a hasty move done more to reward a long time loyal employee than for any particular pitching philosophy he may have had.
  14. Once again if you simply take the Red Sox at their word (sometimes it is difficult to do) DD wasn't fired for his failures to rebuild the farm. etc He was fired for his leadership style specifically he isolated himself from the rest of the baseball operations staff and minor league managers. I take that to mean he pissed too many people off.
  15. Having watched a game at the Trop that place is such a dump it would be a travesty to play any championship baseball there.
  16. I think the Sox FO has made it clear that Cora's job is safe at least for one more year. However, given Henry's recent moves I think it is safe to say that how long Cora stays as manager will very much depend on performance. If Boston makes a serious move to dump salary I can not imagine that even Henry would hold him to unrealistic performance goals next year.
  17. Like I said no one wants LaVangie gone more than I but one has to give some deference to LaVangie's years of service to the club. You don't remember Johnny Pesky's time managing the Red Sox. But Pesky wasn't a very good manager but a great baseball person. I suspect that LaVangie may be misplaced as pitching coach but that's no reason to say that he won't make a valuable addition or contribution elsewhere in the organization.
  18. What I see is the Chapman scenario with Betts. Trade him at the deadline and reap what ever dividend that accrues and then resign him in free agency. I don't believe the Sox will get to trade JD because I believe he opts out. I think JBJ is gone. Hembree is gone. Barnes I think they keep sorry to say.
  19. No one would like to see LaVangie gone more than I. However, LaVangie is a Red Sox lifer. Only 50, he has been with the Red Sox for over 29 years. He may not be as popular with the fans as was Johnny Pesky but with the players and organizational staff he reportedly is. LaVangie has the reputation of someone who has been willing to take the unglamorous crap jobs for the good of the organization over the years. I guess the pitching coachs job was his reward for being a "good soldier" I suspect if Boston does move him out of the pitching coach's job (which is likely in my view) they will find him some other role in the organization just as they did Johnny Pesky who managed the team in 63-64.
  20. I firmly believe that if the Sox were to trade Betts they would only do so once they determine how well they are doing in 2020. If Boston starts strong out the gate next year and they look like they are solid playoff contenders then they will likely hold on to Betts to make their playoff run. Red Sox fans would quickly turn on Henry and the club if they perceive Boston had capitulated on a playoff run prematurely. Remember the Red Sox are not only competing against the Yankees et al but also against the Patriots, Bruins and Celtics for Boston's sport fans entertainment dollars. Sox fans living outside of New England and Massachusetts need to keep that in mind. That being the case I think most Red Sox fans would accept trading Betts if the return would re position the club to be solid contenders in 21 and beyond. For this reason I think the Red Sox are most likely to move Betts closer to the trade deadline than earlier to maximize their return especially if their goal is restocking the farm with solid top notch prospects.
  21. Thank you for explaining. I am sorry I didn't mind to offend you. We can agree to disagree on the scouting. I said we will be back in the top ten in farm teams in two years. You I believe think otherwise. Hopefully we will both be around to see who is correct. That will be the only resolution to our disagreement.
  22. These are all your opinion which of course you have a right to. But don't expect me to agree merely because you post it. BTW why do you put everything in bold face. It is the equivalent of shouting in text. It is off putting. Are you afraid no one would pay any attention to your posts if you wrote them in normal type. Curious
  23. Dodgers no rings this century, Boston has 4.
  24. There is more to baseball scouting than the IFA market which you seem to have a fixation on. Besides anyone who claims that Alex Cora is the greatest manager in Red Sox history after one season shouldn't question anyone's baseball judgment.
  25. Rikard has been with the Sox for over ten years. You can quibble but the facts are clear Boston is second to none in its scouting which was my original point.
