  1. That is because I have been a Red Sox fan longer than you
  2. I positively do not agree with Bush's hiring.
  3. They got 4 rings primarily because of FA starters. Not one of their primary pitchers relievers or starters in 2018 were products of the Red Sox system. They recognized the need to revamp their approach toward pitching yet when given the opportunity to bring in a fresh approach they declined to do so. BTW I do not consider Bloom's first move to ratify Bush's hiring as an auspicious beginning. Is he the new head of Baseball Ops or merely the first among equals? Is he merely a Coordinator or really in charge.
  4. If he was on board with Cora's approach to this past years ST is reason enough to go outside the organization.
  5. Bush has been with Boston since 2016. Three years is more than enough to have become indoctrinated with Boston's pitching philosophy. (Didn't they say that one of the reasons he was hired was his familiarity with the Red Sox system.) A new approach means a new approach not recycling staffers. As they say let's rearrange the deck chairs on Titanic that will save the ship.
  6. The Red Sox themselves admitted that they needed to rethink their entire approach toward pitching and the development of pitchers throughout their organization. So when they have an opportunity to bring in a true outsider to help lead that effort they decide to promote an internal candidate. As a wise man once said, "If you always do what you always did, you always get what you always got!"
  7. All hail the all knowing front office the source of all baseball knowledge and wisdom. Let's not pollute their dogma with alien influences.
  8. This may be true but Bush served as Sox Minor League Pitching Coordinator. It is thought that his familiarity with Sox minor league pitchers gave him a leg up to snare the job. My issue is that the Sox track record on pitcher development in the minors hasn't been their strong suit. I thought they could benefit from an outsiders perspective as to approach and mechanics.
  9. Excellent point as well.
  10. What has bothered me for a number of years has been the sox tendency to tout their young pitching prospects who have had terrible mechanics. The most egregious example several years ago was Michael Bowden who was highly touted but who got clobbered once he got to the bigs. How that kid ever got out of double A ball was a complete mystery to me.
  11. Analytics is fine but it is mechanics not statistics that actually propels the baseball.
  12. That is not a jump but the obvious inference. Let's just say I think we will have GM by committee. I don't say that would necessarily be a bad thing but rather the way Henry wants it to be. I am prepared to see how it works out. It could prove very successful.
  13. So in another words Bloom isn't his own man but rather one more voice in the choir
  14. You know what happens when one assumes?
  15. The red sox themselves admitted that they needed to revamp their entire approach toward pitching. The fact that Boston's last home grown successful starter was John Lester speaks for itself. One would have thought that their hiring of Bloom was a sign that they wanted a fresh outside approach. Bush's signing appears to run contrary to their previous statements and the Bloom hire.
  16. I would have preferred that they went outside the organization.
  17. My underlining point is not meant to impugn Chain, the Red Sox could hire the greatest GM of all time and it wouldn't change a thing,. My point is that Henry has demonstrated that he will dismiss anyone at any time if it suits his purposes at that point in time. Such a dismissal should not be taken as statement as to competency but rather as a statement of one's utility to Henry. In other words, if Red Sox officials want loyalty then they should get a dog.
  18. I can't say I like Chaim . That question is irrelevant. Given Henry's track record on Chiefs of Baseball Operations/GMs, I don't see him lasting any longer than any of his predecessors. I'd be shocked if Chaim has the usual 5 years to "turn things around"
  19. If they do rebound then this team as is contends.
  20. There were a number of teams who used to have full stadiums too. However years of mismanagement by ownership caused attendance to slide. Baltimore is a perfect example. I can well remember when Fenway was more empty than full. It is a gross miscalculation to think that Boston sports fans would continue to support a feckless Red Sox team ad infinatum just because they did so in the past.
  21. Make no mistake about it the current red sox team is a championship quality team with one or two additions. Henry's decision to move under the LT is his decision that will lead to the deconstruction of a championship team. Let's be clear about that.
  22. Bloom is a rational hire. However, the test will be not if he can reduce payroll. Any new GM can do that. The test will be whether he can produce a championship team within the new budgetary constraints Henry seems to have imposed. To state the obvious Boston isn't Tampa. He isn't just competing against the rest of baseball. He will be competing against the Patriots, Bruins and even the Celtics for the attention and affection of Boston's sports fans. Bloom will face intense pressure unlike any he experienced in Florida to "feed the beast" and put fannies in the seats and NESN ratings high. Having a solid farm system may be appealing to many who post here and other Red Sox fora but it will hardly satisfy those rabid Red Sox fans who care about only two things, beating the Yankees and winning titles.
  23. I agree. The reporting I've seen seems to suggest that it will be an internal promotion.
  24. I do not care For Cora. So what. I think his world series win and 2018 was a "one off" as the Brits would say.
