  1. The Tigers in 2006 blew the division on the final day and won the Wild Card and were slumping and yet still beat the Yankees. The Twins in 2009 finished 22-4 and yet were swept by the Yankees. We get it. Whenever the Yankees get beat in the playoffs it's bad luck, or bad format, or whatever. The excuses for the Yankees are a mile long.
  2. Won/Loss is a terrible stat considering Fister had the worst run support in the AL when he played in Seattle. Since you brought it up, he's 8-1 since coming to Detroit.
  3. Fister had a 2.83 ERA (4th in AL), a 1.06 WHIP (6th in AL), a 3.02 FIP (5th in AL), 139 ERA+ (7th in AL), walked only 1.5 hitter per 9 IP (4th in AL), had a 3.95 K/BB ratio (5th in AL), and had a 5.6 WAR (6th in AL). All the stats I listed are equal or better than CJ Wilson, Texas best pitcher, but he's "alright" If he played on the Yankees he'd have 20+ wins and people would be drooling how good he is. He is not spotty. You have no idea what you are talking about.
  4. I saw this on another forum and felt it was appropriate here. http://i54.tinypic.com/24nnslw.jpg
  5. What's ironic is this thread was created on August 5th and on August 4th Detroit and Texas finished their last series against each other for the regular season.
  6. Every time the Yankees lose to a team from the AL Central it's because the playoff format. The Yankees weren't complaining when they beat Minnesota in a best of five every year. Why are the Yankees better? Because they have 2 more wins over a 162 game schedule? It's like people in New York don't realize baseball exists outside of New York. Mike Francesa didn't even know who Al Alburquerque is. I doubt the Yankees would win two games in a row against the Tigers with Verlander pitching at least one more game.
  7. Ogando was 3-0 against Detroit in the regular season. Rest of the rotation was 0-6. Ogando will be in the bullpen.
  8. In other words the Yankees have developed two injury prone relievers in Hughes and Chamberlain. Still doesn't explain the bad contracts. Any other team except for the Red Sox would be hamstrung by these bad deals. 51 million for Jeter when Jhonny Peralta had a better season and made 5.5 million. 82 million for Burnett and the Yankees were concerned about him taking the mound. A-Rod making 30 million and making 20+ million till he's 42. Burnett hasn't worked out so the Yankees can just make a run at CJ Wilson or Cliff Lee like they did last year. You can't do that if you aren't the Yankees.
  9. Wait, what has Hughes done? I'm not sure the Granderson trade was that great. Couldn't the Yankees have used Ian Kennedy in this series? A 200 million dollar payroll and you're resurrecting the corpses of Bortolo Colon and Freddy Garcia.
  10. The Yankees won 97 games. The Tigers won 95. Are they really better? Didn't we hear in 2006 how the Yankees were better than the Tigers and the Yankees lost? In the past 10 years, the Yankees have made the playoffs 9 times. They are 4-0 against the Twins in the first round. They are 0-5 against the rest (Twice against Detroit, Twice against the Angels, Once against Cleveland) It's also not like Cabrera, Martinez, or Avila had a great series. The best thing the Yankees can do this offseason is get Fatbathia on Nutrisystem.
  11. Brian Cashman is a pretty awful GM. Just because you have a blank check doesn't mean you're good. Any other team and these foolish contracts would be a hindrance. AJ Burnett 82 Million Justin Verlander 80 Million Derek Jeter 51 Million Jhonny Peralta 11 Million Mark Texiera 180 Million Miguel Cabrera 152 Million Lets not forget Cashman handed out a contract to Alex Rodriguez that will pay him at least 20 million annually until the age of 42. Who else in baseball was going to even come close to giving A-Roid a 10 year 275 million dollar contract at the age of 32? They also sign a middle reliever to a 35 million dollar contract when they could've had Benoit for half that.
