  1. Adjusts with what? Again, the guy is pitching on guts...add guile to guts if you want to. That is all he has at this point. Once a pitcher reaches that point in his career or his year, you can't any longer expect adjustment in that stint particularly in a game you have to win. Maybe Rick can figure out how to make this work for him in the off season. But it will take some period of time for him to do it if he can do it at all. He is not going to do it from one inning to the next at this point. Even if he does figure out a way to make this work, it will NEVER work as well as it did for that magical period when he could throw rising four seam FB's that ended up out of the zone. I should point out that Rick was only able to do that for about a year and a half of his career. Won a Cy doing it. Probably burned out his arm doing it. He came out to the mound in the first inning throwing four seam FB's at 88....NOTHING and cranked them up to 92 but flat at 92, in other words nothing. Once his pitch count started to rise and his secondary pitches started to flatten out and his FB got even worse, that was it....done. Cora gave him one howitzer shot. Fine as far as I am concerned. But that should have been it. The second shot was a railcar cannon shot and that one was the preverbal second kick from the mule from which no lessons can be learned. Frankly I have more respect and regard for pitchers throwing on guts and guile alone than most people posting in these forums. That is fine too. Everybody is welcome to their opinion about what they respect or don't respect.
  2. I am not sure I have ever seen Rick pitch on guts alone before this year. But I have seen other pitchers stuck pitching on guts alone. You simply cannot let them try to "work out" of it when their pitches start to straighten out in a stint. You're just asking for it then. The first howitzer shot should have been the last and given the inning somebody should have already been up in the pen.
  3. Some team looking to make Mookie their complete marketing effort will offer him more than 33x8. Probably more than 30x10. I would offer Mookie 33x8. They should offer Mookie 33x8. But I doubt he will take it.
  4. I guess my only real issue with not quick hooking Rick is that the guy is just pitching on guts alone.....nothing else. Its obvious. Rick's courage is commendable. But when that is all the pitcher is taking out to the mound with him and you have the arms in the pen, you have to quick hook him.
  5. Rogers going back to his middle middle effort. Get one Rafi
  6. Radio guys saying Cron made the right move tagging G Hernandez. I thought he had a heck of a shot at the out at 2nd.
  7. Ole' goes Sano as Kirby Puckett turns in his grave.
  8. I would be willing to bet that Pom taught both Barnes and Work that knuckle curve. Neither guy threw the knuckle curve before Pom got here yet both were around with Pom as a Red Sox pitcher. I seriously doubt LaVanchie taught it to them.
  9. Surprised at Vaz there....a Seno like AB. The number of times hitters strike themselves out is appalling. the funny part is that the pitchers know darned will that all they have to do with two strikes is throw any sort of a bender or offspeed pitch at all and with the hitters swinging out of their shoelaces they are probably out......AND......the pitchers STILL have a tough time pulling it off.
  10. Rogers is desperately trying to go middle middle
  11. Even with two strikes Vaz will probably be a tough out here
  12. Roger puts it on a tee to Beni and then hits Mitch! I would have to keep a glove in the dugout as a current MLB pitching coach just to have something to chew on all game long.
  13. That was exactly the wrong pitch in exactly the wrong location. MLB is going to have to start a charity fund for pitching coaches. I just don't know they don't end up driven batty by MLB pitching. Could have thrown Rafi just anything but that and even if it went out the pitching coach would likely have been able to tolerate it.
  14. Nice shot Rafi!
  15. Biggest problem with Rick's four seam is that its got nothing. Simply can't throw it with any velo in any location. Tough sledding in MLB with no four seam at all and his is meat at this point. He is pumping 91 with that thing now and he simply cannot get it up and out of the zone as he did for that magic year and a half.
  16. I am willing to bet Sano's shot was over 452. That thing was still going up.
  17. I think Taylor was simply not focused. He was all over the place with his arm slot and release point and Cora noticed it. Chewed him out and pulled him. You simply cannot afford to not be giving your best effort when your name is Josh Taylor.
  18. Guts will only take you so far pitching in MLB an guts is all Rick has got left.
  19. Nice pitch Rick....another classic Lets not leave any doubt about wining this game WTF.
  20. Gee Rick, was that hit good enough or what? A classic Porcello
  21. Really nice AB Beni. I'm really impressed. Uber driver seems to be pretty full up at this point. How about pizza delivery.
  22. Sano is a prime example of what is wrong with the contemporary hitter. Might as well complain about the hitters since I complain so much about the pitchers. The guy is as big as a building and with the 2019 baseball all he has to do is flick his bat at the thing. Any contact on any part of the barrel and its likely gone. The absolute best way to gain a little bat control AND quicken your bat at the same time is to choke up even just a little bit. Does Sano choke up even a little bit with 2 strikes? NOPE. Lets himself get beaten by that 92 mph nothing FB from Rick.
  23. Rick is showing immense courage tonight. Threw a Change 3-2 last inning. Pumped that nothing four seam right down Main St figuring he could get away with it after throwing two straight Curves and got away with it.
  24. I don't like these umps that can't get anything right. Eventually the stuff he can't get right hurts you as much as it hurts the other guys.
  25. I don't know what is more indicative of MLB's issues with pitching, everyday players pitching or Uber drivers pitching.
