  1. I think Padilla in the 9th would have worked this time out as well because he was throwing so effortlessly and his FB was moving all over the place. While he may not THINK his way specifically through a 9th inning I just don't think he would allow the moment to get the better of him. By that I mean, if Padilla is sound, he will make pitches whether it is the 9th inning or not...he does not give a damn. Even though it has only been two opportunities I am convinced that Aceves can't be the closer....it is not so much for me the result as the way he is approaching the 9th inning. Morales has closed and Melancon has closed. Next game I think V will be forced to try Melancon and if that works I might leave Melancon there. if not, as soon as Padilla is ready to pitch again, I might move him into that role.
  2. So you give up on trying to see if they actually have a SP in Bard without a single start. and you are what..... absolutely dead nuts sure Bard can close....really.....based on what? Aceves certainly has the pitches to pitch better in these 9th inning stints than he has shown...if anything he just does not have the head for it. Bard has a different set of pitches but may be just as disinclined to having a head for closing as Aceves appears to be.
  3. Can't just plug Cook into the ALE although I do think he will see time in Boston. Unless you did not know it, Aceves is a very stubborn dude, headstrong and stubborn. To be honest it looks to me like he comes out and pitches in the 9th just like he would if it was the 6th. I don't mean the pitches are the same. I mean he does not have his own head screwed on for pitching in the 9th. He gets to the mound not even realizing he is all adrenaline and no brains. Before he even gets to the pitches he's done. He can certainly change speeds better than he has shown but have we seen him throw anything but meat in his two Closer chances...I haven't. Nothing comes in looking like it will fool guys with their blood up in the 9th inning yet he does not have gas. Even when he overthrows it is not like the ball is exploding on guys. I think the one experiment that is truly done is Aceves as closer. Don't think he even knows what is happening to him.
  4. There are choices but Aceves is just going out there and throwing....that has no chance in the 9th. It just doesn't. Even Melancon has closed and likely at least knows what he has to do to get through a ninth inning. Aceves for all of his value to this team seems to simply not recognize what pitching in the 9th requires.
  5. Well the Sox have a lotta' choices...just don't seem to be making the right ones. Padilla has gas obviously and Aceves does not. Could have tried Padiila in the closers spot. Could it be worse than what they are doing? Have to fool them in the 9th or blow it past them. Can't just go out there and throw and that is exactly what Aceves has done twice now.
  6. Has Salty found V's dog house already...I don't get that at all
  7. If Padilla can pitch like that they earn back some flexibility and maybe can get rid of this stupid 13 pitchers thing
  8. Boy that was a horrible play by Raburn. Already had Prince in foul ground so I have no idea where he thought he was going
  9. Did I miss it...did they announce who is warming in the pen?
  10. Padilla scared the runner away from 1st
  11. Pedey throws some glove!
  12. Well in fact since none of them were in the strike zone the count would have been 3-0 to Agons
  13. Oh how i would love to see David take this guy Yard
  14. Wow that took nerve...no warning ump?????
  15. It is an effective pitch if used sparingly and trust me...it has nothing to do with HIS fastball. He has genuine gas although he showed little of it in the spring and I don't have any idea how many innings he is good for. It is an Off-off speed pitch and has more to do with his normal curve. Let somebody time it though and you are lookin' at Perez vs Bill Lee in the WS with similar results.
  16. Did I hear that right.....we are opening two ballparks on the road before we ever have a home game....f***ing networks and the GD league.
  17. Can't throw the E that often....he will eventually get tagged doing that....and No it does not make the heat harder to hit because in no way and nowhere does the plane of that pitch match the plane of the heater....plus his arm angle is totally different which the hitters in this league will eventually see and attack.
  18. Whoops Vincente' forgot he was in Detroit...almost came out for a bow
  19. Way to go Vincente'. He has found his inner Aceves!
  20. I would not be throwin' that slow bender that often Mr Padilla especially on days when you're pumpin gas
  21. Did ya' see Prince glare out at Padilla after that slow curve
  22. Detroit's pitchers have finally smartened up and won't throw Shoppach anything inside. I wave the swing fine for that at bat.
  23. Quick run to your fridge...just heard last call for beer in Tiger Stadium
  24. Padilla throwing gas...write in campaign for the Cy Young!
  25. Hey look,,,,the Detroit hitter in the on deck circle is doin' the Crawford...practicing hitting with one hand
