    The clear is formally called "White Birch Beer". It IS less snappy than "Birch Beer" and I think it probably takes some knack to get the sweetness and the bite to balance in White Birch Beer. Probably why combined with a lack of White Birch Trees, its really rare or I perceive it as really rare now. Polar's clear Birch Beer is really not very pleasant. I found it to have a very flat taste. Did not IMO get either the bite or the sweetness right.

    Bottles are the only way to go for a Birch Beer.

    Actually here, Birch Trees have gotten pretty scarce Used to have stands of Birch. Rare now. Contractors have destroyed so much of their root structures indiscriminately landscaping and developing around them. They really do not tolerate having their root structures messed with....less tolerant than other trees in that regard. Contractors COULD landscape so that the Birch could be saved.....too much to ask....OF COURSE.

    No..NO...NO!!! We are building around Neck-tat and Gas Grill. Though I would not climb the stairs to the second floor in a house built on those two guys......jusssssst a little shaky.

    The brands that used to have a Birch Beer were usually the brands that had a cream soda and a root beer. Birch would slide right into that lineup. I have kept expecting IBC to make a Birch Beer so that I could at least try it. No luck. Stewarts....same story....should have one but don't. Jones or Dr Jones whatever the hell it is should probably not even attempt it. Polar has one I THINK. I know they had one. Not to my liking but as with all things, your mileage may vary. It is usually clear in color and that clear color makes you feel like you just got your hands on some real moonshine liquor though the taste is not similar.....but that clarity of the liquid just makes you feel like you are doing something illegal, especially if you are only 8 years old. Its moonshine clear as opposed to sparkling water clear.

    So Peralta records a 6+ era in 39 MLB appearances. Well OK that sucks but whatever. But how about these guys that come up from AAA sporting a 5-6+ era in AAA!!!! Where are we going with THAT MLB?

    ah, Birch Beer.....one small grocery store had a great Birch Beer when I was growing up. Not smart enough at the time to record the brand. It was excellent. Just enough bite....just sweet enough. Tried to duplicate it ever since. None have come close. Very disappointing.

    If the home plate ump gives ERod a wider plate, he will be calling strikes on pitches thrown to the 1st base dugout.

    This is looking like one of those crazy games where NOTHING can be relied upon until the last out has been recorded....somewhere around 10:00 tonight.

    There he is....3rd base ump moved to 2nd. Want to lay odds on his ability to get anywhere near 3rd base from where he was standing. Are they gonna' have the home plate ump abandon home where runs are scored to cover 3rd. Would hate to see the consequences if those two umps had to whisper in each other's ears. The result might require ambulatory care.

    Jacko mortified. Domingo German put on administrative leave by MLB on a domestic violence charge.

    No ump at 2nd today. Anybody want to lay odds on Joe's ability to cover from 1st. Come to think of it, I don't think there is any help coming from 3rd base either. If 3rd base ump tries to shade 2nd there is no way he is getting to 3rd to make a call. Maybe a no stealing rule has been initiated cause I have no idea what they are going to do.

    Isn't it a real encouraging end to the season to have all this sludge brought up to reinforce our optimism for the future?

    It was their phrasing that grabbed you by the gut and would not let you go although I was too young at the time to know it was called phrasing. Give Patsy a song that she truly loved to sing and she would tie you in knots with it. Virtually everything Hank did got you in some way shape or form. Hank was consistently great. Patsy's high points were simply hard to match, just over the top but her low points were below Hank's standard IMO. Patsy's arrangements were more refined but it hardly mattered. If she loved the song she was singing, you knew it and they could have put a monkey with an organ grinder behind her. Would not have mattered. Hank's arrangements were much less refined but his phrasing one tune to the next was about unmatched for its consistent excellence.

    Stig, Sean McD and Angry lou on the EEI mikes again for today's game. I cut out for awhile last night to watch the 4th episode of Ken Burn's Country Music documentary series. Can't say that I am a big fan of Country these days but as a young lad just loved Patsy Cline and Hank Williams. Stories so simple and so honest set to melody that even a young lad like me could make sense of them.

    The home season mercifully ends when this series ends. At least now the Sox will inflict their particularly sparkling brand of baseball on the cities they visit. Prepare to pack a sleeping bag and a few extra meals fans! Whoops forgot about the O's at the end...Now that should be a terrific Fenway series.

    EEI guys musing that this guy Franco is yet another pitcher unable to produce an ERA better than 5+ in AAA yet called up anyway. Don't they get it yet? There is literally nobody left in these organizations that can pitch. They are down to these guys or throwing everyday players every game.
