In a BP staff only one or two can close consistently and those that you named were the best relievers at some point in their teams. On the other hand only a few can close consistently through years like Mo and Papelbon... Kimberl is in that direction as well.

What does the common sense have to do with it? hahaha, if you think that the 9th inning is just another inning, why the best reliever in a staff oftenly pitch in that inning and not in the 7th or other one.

This! The 9th inning is the most pressure inning in a game of baseball for both batters and pitchers, and only few pitchers can pitch well with that kind of pressure mostly when the game close.

LOL. Not at all Kim, as always mi compadre joking around. The idea of this thread is to debate about our team or baseball in general BUT in Spanish. I thought it could be a good idea since a lot of Latinos follow this team around LA and probably some in this board are actually form LA. To me sometimes it is difficult to express my ideas in English since it is not very good as probably you have noticed, and here could be easier, so... Do not be shy, If you want to talk about baseball while practicing your Spanish, this is the place.

What do you mean with "no whining"? Do not pointing out when something is wrong and sometimes with bad words? I could understand that coming from a woman, but coming from a man?... Cmon! Still do not understand why some people get angry when somebody is pointing out when something's wrong or produce frustration with your team mostly when it is losing or a player makes a bad play or something... It usually happens here in game threads; I think it is part of the game and how you feel your fandom. In real life it always happens when your team shits the bed and you share those feelings with your buddies at bars or someone's place in the middle of a barbecue... and trust me, those feelings are unanimous and most of the times they are funny and creative I would say haha.

No estoy tan seguro de esto, ya que a Lester estaban dispuestos a darle 135 M, cierto? Entiendo todo lo que dices y hace sentido aunque difiero de la estrategia tomada. Yo creo que en algún punto van a tomar un par de pitchers considerados No1s. que posiblemente estén entrando a sus 30s.

La apuesta desde mi punto de vista es muy alta considerado su edad y de lo que sufrió en términos de lesiones recientemente. No me lo tomes a mal, a mi me encantaría tener a un Lee completamente sano por los siguientes 2 años, pero no puedo dejar de pensar que Shields desde mi ángulo hubiera sido una mejor apuesta, por lo que te acabo de explicar. Al final del día, toda contratación por pequeña o grande que sea esta, es una apuesta.

Además, el tiempo del contrato es de solo 4 años y a un precio que no es tan arriba del de Lee, si lo ves desde su VPN. Olvídate por un momento de lo que tu piensas que piensa la actual administración de los medias rojas, lo cual al final de día es una percepción de cualquiera de nosotros. Si yo te pongo un jugador que va costar 60 M y que se ha mantenido sano durante su etapa de arbitraje, y que tiene gran experiencia pichando vs equipos de la liga americana y que si bien tiene 33 años no podríamos considerarlo un viejo aún; y por otro lado a un jugador que viene de una campaña llena de lesiones, con 37 años y que te va costar 40 M... a quién preferirías? Entiendo que podrías asumir que está sano (aunque me gustaría entender los parámetros que esto significaría)... el problema es que ese riesgo siempre estaría mucho más latente en un jugador de 37 que viene de tener esos problemas que uno que no los ha presentado y que es 4 años más joven.

Me queda claro que si Lee está sano es mejor que Shields. Pero viendo el tiempo de servicio que estaría dándonos Shields vs la diferencia de efectividad de cada uno de ellos, y la diferencia de dinero (asumiendo que la tasa inflacionaria sea la correcta), la mejor opción hubiera sido Shields sin duda. Por otra parte, para ti qué significa un Lee sano? que lo demuestre en ST? o tu estás a favor de que lo demuestre al menos de aquí a Agosto cuando se agota el tiempo para hacer los trueques?

Hace un rato estaba pensando acerca de la posibilidad de traer a Lee como algunos están sugiriendo. Este jugador va costar 40 M, cierto?. Me pregunto cuál es valor presente neto del contrato actual de Shields. Si tomo como referencia la tasa inflacionaria que el otro día tomó Pal, la cual estaba si no mal recuerdo en alrededor de los 13%s, el VPN estaría alrededor de 60 M. Tomando en cuenta estos escenarios, y si todo esto que estoy asumiendo es cierto, veo muy poco probable que Lee se vista con medias rojas. Ahora bien, de ser este el caso, sería de verdad una estupidez haber dejado ir a Shields.

I think they shitted the bed since the beginning when they misread his value and tryied to cheat him with that initial ridiculous offer. Then they wanted to fix the thing but it was to late. As I said, At 120 M he would have likely signed at the time, even Lester himself said that according to the link that I already shared.
