Like I said, this isn't the team you buy big with. It's a smarter move, with where we are now, to stand pay and see what happens than give away prospects. We have a chance this year but not big enough to go all out at the deadline.
Perhaps but Lars had no place here.
If this kid can develop his knuckleball ball. We could have a solid back end guy to eat innings or a long man out of the bullpen.
We wanted two lefties in the pen. We made due with morales until we swapped s*** for a solid reliever who could slot into morales role while Franklin goes into the rotation.
There wasn't a huge move to be made. There just wasn't. This deal makes us better without losing anything valuable.
He got us a closer for someone who was at the time expendable. No one could've predicted Reddick's power surge and bailey's thumb issue. Jury is still out.
The Houston deal didn't turn out great for us but it isn't like Houston fleeced BC
Ben brought in shoppach and Ross who've been great and he did shed scutaro's salary. He also brought in Padilla along with Breslow just today.
There wasn't a big move for Ben to make. Okay? It's that simple.
What the f*** do you want from him?
He's a solid lefty arm who's under control for next year and he let's us move morales into the rotation.
Also.
Youks had to go. Just had to go. We're lucky we got anything for him. Also, the guy we flipped Brent for has some solid numbers iirc.
Bailey/Sweeney, doesn't look great now but we have to see what we get from bailey before making a final judgement
Melancon hasn't worked out but it's not like we gave up a ton for him. Weiland is mediocre and lowrie is made of glass.
Most of the guys getting picked up for what you call nothing are outfielders. We don't need outfielders. If Ben could've gotten a good starter for nothing, he most certainly would've done it.
Even with that being the case, getting a solid piece like Breslow for what amounts to scraps is a solid move considering how he's more than a 2 month rental.
He also allows us to slip morales back into the rotation.
Helps us improve the rotation in house and we got a solid lefty reliever for the last 2 months and 2013 for a washed up singles hitter and a meh reliever.
Breslow is a solid lefty reliever. Albers has solid numbers but scares the s*** out of me every time he comes into a game and he turned back into a pumpkin right around this time last year.
Fair enough. Still, it doesn't seem like they've gotten much for what they've dealt and I doubt Halladay would cost very much but he does indeed have shoulder issues so I don't know. Just spitballing.
A thought just popped into my head.
Do you think Philly would listen on Halladay? He's only under contract through 2013 and is older than Lee. He's having sort of an off year and I think he'd be easier to move than Lee. Plus, the Phils' GM is retarded and I'm hearing that the return for Victorino wasn't great and that they got absolutely fleeced on Pence.
This is one deal I would look into if I where BC but aside from that, nothing much else aside from possibly Masterson.
Probably standing pat this year which is what I would prefer and am totally okay with. I'd rather take a chance on Beckett and Lester getting it going over the next two months than overpaying. It isn't as if we're 1 or 2 games back on the WC or division.
We're 4 out with several teams to leap frog. I believe that we have a chance but this is the not the team I want Ben going into complete "buy" mode to improve heading into August or September.
If something had popped up that fit our needs and wasn't going to cost too much, I'm sure we'd have heard about it. The fact is that there isn't much for the Sox to do at the deadline this year. At least in my opinion.
