  1. Yeah, I've consistently lost interest in baseball and sports in general over the last 3 years. I made a vow to get back into and now that I've rediscovered my love of America's past time, it's only **** December!
  2. I'm not saying he wasn't fun to watch as a player, but in my opinion the guy was kind of a douchebag. Would I like to see him in our lineup again, yeah if you duct tape his mouth. All the stuff he said in 2008 about the Red Sox not deserving him really put him on my s*** list. As a hitter he's great, but as a person he pisses me off. I loved him right up until 2008. Plus sue me for saying this but I think Jason Bay is a much better player than Manny Ramirez. When we made that trade I saw it as an upgrade. My reasoning was that Manny could hit, and that was about it. Bay could hit for power, he could play the field, he wasn't a loudmouth and a distraction, and he hustled. I can only say one of those things for Manny. Sure he was on 2 World Series teams and contributed a lot to the Sox in his 7 or so years with the team but I think I have a legitimate reason to dislike him.
  3. I wouldn't mind Manny going to New York. I hate him already, seeing him in pinstripes would make me hate him more. Plus he'd have to cut his hair
  4. Yeah, he never quite panned out like we had hoped but goddamn could the guy play the field. I still remember that hit that he robbed from Wright against the Mets in 2006.
  5. I miss Alex Cora
  6. I never understood Papelbon getting s*** for saying he would want the ball, as all closers would, in the all star game in New York. He never said he should close it or that the he is better than Mariano. The one thing he did that pissed me off though was him saying he's looking forward to setting the bar for closer contracts when he hits the market. The greedyness on his end there really rubbed me the wrong way.
  7. Haha, can do.
  8. I said bring him in as a mop up guy. The fact of the matter is that we aren't paying him much anyway and we're not gonna throw him in a one run game against New York or anything like that. The guy does what he's asked. He volunteered and took a beating in game 3 in 2004 and pitched 3 scoreless in game 4. The guy's done alright out of the pen before and he could also serve as a spot starter in case of injury. It's nice to have that depth. I say give it a shot, see what happens.
  9. Fair enough point, I see what you mean. The bottom line is that he better get his act together or there's a different guy trotting out of the right field bullpen in 2012
  10. On the subject of Papelbon, it's pretty obvious that he isn't what he used to be. Back in 2006 you had the flamethrowing kid with the deathstare that came out of nowhere and blew people away with a blazing heater and a nice splitter. Now he just throws fastball after fastball and he keeps getting hit. Every time I see Jon trot out onto the mound, I'm holding my breath. Good closers shouldn't make you do that. When Pap pitches I feel that the chances of a 3 run inning and a tie ballgame is just as likely as a strikeout. Last year he had an ERA near 4, he blew 8 saves, had his highest WHIP since his first season as the closer, and he also gave up a career high 7 homes runs. He either needs to get his s*** together or we need to look for other solutions at the closing spot. Jonathan Papelbon wasn't Jonathan Papelbon last year.
