  1. I would call the Dodgers right now and ask for Joc Pederson for Lester, not this offseason, right now.
  2. Yup. He could be a very good fit for a NL Central team, a la Burnett. Or an NL West team, I bet the Dodgers would be very interested to be honest.
  3. The Sox weren't going to add him to the 40 man. He was going to get lost in the rule 5 during the offseason. The Sox addressed a need for a pitcher who pumps 95-97 from the left side. He's not as good as Miller, but Miller was absolutely electric at times. It was a very good deal from the Red Sox perspective. By the way, I love how you constantly say that prospects rarely pan out and that we should bear no hopes on them, and then as soon as we trade one that wasnt even a top 20 prospect in our entire system to fill a need, it's not a good deal because of his potential.
  4. Jacobs wasnt on the 40 man and would have been lost in the Rule 5 draft this offseason anyway. Very very good move by Ben. Love this move.
  5. Brandon Jackbs flashed some power during the 2011 season and make some top 100 lists but has fallen off the map over the past year and a half. Still young enough to recover but by no means was a blue chip or something that hurt to trade. Fantastic pick up by the Sox IMO.
  6. All this kid does is mash. Another HR last night. Now OPS'ing .832 after a tough start. Hitting .324/.419/.568 in July. He's 20.
  7. I feel like I've said this a thousand times, but it bears repeating. Garin Cecchini is going to be your 2015 Red Sox first baseman.
  8. Part of me is gunshy about putting too much reliance on Iglesias (a la Middlebrooks). But, looking at his peripherals, his K% and BB% indicate that he can pretty easily be a .265/.325/.360 hitter, which is plenty good enough with his glove. League average SS this year are hitting .249/.300/.361 in the AL, so he would actually be very slightly above league average offensively.
  9. Have you seen their second half schedule? It's tough. Right now, they're going through the same stretch of games that the Sox get in August. After the break, the Rays will have 66 games left. Of those games, only 28 will be at home. At the break, they will have played an astonishing 53 of their first 96 games at home. That leaves 28 home games and 38 road games left in their schedule. Considering they're .500 on the road, that doesn't bode well for them. Not to mention their road games aren't exactly easy. 6 @ TOR, 4 @ BOS, 6 @ NYY, 3 @ BAL, a 6 game West Coast Trip vs the NL West (2 @ ARI, 4 @ LAD), a 10 game west coast trip (3 @ OAK, 4 @ LAA, 3 @ SEA). Plus a rainout makeup game @ KC for 1 game on an offday between two home series, so even in their homestand they're traveling. They've been playing well, but they've got a tough second half. Especially when the Sox have more home games (34) than away (31) in the 2nd half.
  10. Turns my stomach to think about trading Bogaerts. Even if it's for Stanton (which I certainly pull the trigger on), I just keep thinking about having the next HanRam at SS for years to come, and that's crazy exciting. By the way, he (Bogaerts) went yard again yesterday.
  11. Winning 100 would be awesome, but just win the division, that's all I care about right now to be honest. Having said that, like Thunder said, the August schedule looks like something they should take advantage of. And it comes right in time, as that's right during the dog days. Don't think the Sox need to do anything drastic at the deadline myself, but a couple small improvements should put this team in position to cruise to an AL East championship.
  12. Why the hell is Gomes playing instead of Bradley vs a RHP??
  13. You must not remember that span of starts when he really struggled. His stuff was up all the time.
  14. FOCUS YOU FREAKING PIECE OF CRAP DEMPSTER!!!! FOCUS!!!!!!!! I can't take this freaking garbage.
  15. Would love to see this team's ERA with 2 outs. Gotta be the worst in the league.
  16. Tim Collins is a guy the Red Sox should, at the very least, inquire about with the Royals.
  17. Agree. I'm torn on the decision. He's an absolute stud, he's right in line with MLB SP averages in terms of GB and FB percentages. K rates going up, BB rates going down. Then again, you've got Bogaerts, who could be a perennial MVP candidate and could give you 30+ HR year in and year out. A deal that intrigues the s*** out of me is dealing some prospects (Bogaerts, Cecchini, Ranaudo, Webster, & Brentz) for Cishek and Stanton. But, that's going all in this year and crushing your "build for the future" motto, which I have heavily spoken against. Patience, SFF, patience.
  18. Completely hypothetical, nothing has been said about this, I just want to get a feel for how everyone feels about trades. Would you trade Bogaerts, Webster, and Workman for Chris Sale?
  19. Why did we call up Beato and Wright and get rid of Webby and Aceves?? And why didn't we go with Britton as a lefty instead of Wright?? We only have 1 LHP in the pen.
  20. Lars had 41 games in AA as a 20 year old. It was after that when the pitchers found his weakness, exploited it, and he struggled. Pitchers tried to find Bogaerts weakness, exploit it, and Bogaerts adjusted. That's why Lars struggled mightily in his 21 year old season in AA. He didn't make the adjustments. Nobody knows if anyone is going to be able to make the adjustments in the MLB. What I'm saying is that the test to see if a player is capable of making those adjustments is his jump from A to AA. If he is able to pass that test, then he's ready for the next big test, which is MLB pitching.
  21. I may be an idiot, but I can't figure out how to add a profile picture to my account. EDIT: Nevermind, found it.
  22. Allen Webster was nearly unhittable in those 1-3 inning stints out of the pen during Spring Training. His control was substantially better, as well. It certainly wouldn't hurt for the Sox to see what he's got in the bullpen before sending him back down to AAA. I actually really like getting young pitchers exposure in the bullpen before asking them to go out and get through a lineup 3 times. I think it's good for their development. I'd like to see Webster and Workman coming out of the pen, and would also be interested to see how Britton's stuff plays out of the bullpen.
  23. I said yesterday that if we won that game after being down 5-1, we wouldn't lose again before the ASB. I stand by that.
  24. *sigh* You don't listen to me. I said when he made the adjustment from A to AA, it showed that he's got the tools to make the adjustment from AA to MLB. He's able to adjust to pitching. Nobody is guaranteeing that he's going to bash MLB pitching right now. I have no idea where you get that connotation. The absolute only thing that anyone is saying is that once he is promoted to AAA, he's ready to be called up to the MLB. He doesn't have to sit and develop in AAA, so the argument that "You can't promote him, he's only been in AAA for 2 weeks" isn't valid because the development in AAA is minimal. And please. About Lars. He had 41 good games in AA as a 20 year old. A total of 163 AB. By the time he had the same sample size as Bogaerts in AA (355 PA), he had a total AA line of .276/.377/.462, for an OPS of .839. Bogaerts, spending the time there as a 19 and 20 year old, had a line of .315/.392/.531, an OPS of .922, which is nearly 100 points higher than that of Lars. Not to mention, as the league started to catch up to Bogaerts, he started hitting even better (.364/.472/.625/1.097 in final 110 PA at AA) whereas the league caught up to Lars, and he wasn't able to....wait for it.....adjust , hitting .194/.314/.371 in that same span. It's not a good comparison. Bogaerts is a year younger, and adjusted properly.
  25. Harang got DFA'd a few days ago. It's going to be Erasmo Ramirez vs Doubront. EDIT: Nevermind. That was Bonderman that got DFA'd and will be replaced by Ramirez in tomorrow's game.
