Look. Scutaro and Lowrie have combined to hit .276/.332/.411. Is Reyes a better option? Sure. But he's going to cost more because 1. He's going to be a Type A or B FA, 2. There are way more suitors for his services, and 3. The Mets may re-sign him. Beltran 1. Won't bring a compensation pick, 2. Isn't in as high of demand as a solid hitting, great defensive SS, and 3. won't be resigned by the Mets.
So a package of Miller + Reddick would probably even do the job and get the Mets to eat a good bit of his salary. But for Reyes, you're going to have to spend a whole lot more. Not to mention the fact that the hole in RF is much bigger than the hole at SS.
