Give Lackey 2 more starts to see if he can turn it around. If he can't, you put him in the bullpen as a long relief pitcher. You make your rotation Beckett - Lester - Buchholz - Miller - Wakefield, with Weiland, Doubront, and Millwood as your depth options. I hate the argument that "you're paying him 17.5mm to be a long reliever". I don't care. That's a sunk cost. Just because Miller is paid $17mm less than Lackey doesn't mean he's less talented. Put the most talented team on the field. Not the most expensive.

You can't compare Gonzo to HanRam. Gonzo played for a team with a $40mm payroll, the Marlins can afford HanRam now and they can extend him. He's never been an inevitable trade like Gonzo was, which is why that was drug out so long.

Come on now, it's a legitimate possibility. HanRam was obviously signed as an IFA by the Sox, and the trade for Beckett and Lowell was made during that 3 month span where Theo had left. Theo has had a huge love affair for Hanley in the past, as noted when he tried to reacquire him in the 2008 offseason This was in 2008, when it didn't make sense for the Marlins. Now, it's being reported that they may trade him. So why is it such an outrageous notion that Theo would still be attempting to acquire him? Because he's having a tough season? Maybe a change of scenery is what he needs. We all know that Youkilis is our future DH, whether that's next year or in 3 years, who knows, but someone is going to have to play 3B. Why not put Hanley at SS until Ortiz leaves, then stick Youk at DH, HanRam at 3B, and play Iggy at SS. If the deal for Hanley takes Iggy, you've got 2-3 years to develop Xander Boegarts, who projects to be a SS with a high offensive ceiling. The deal makes sense, and with Theo's history of attempting to reacquire HanRam, along with his lovefest for him (and his history of acquiring guys he has a lovefest for), all point to this being a real possibility. So don't just dismiss it because we've heard it before. If we did that with every trade rumor, we wouldn't have the AL MVP at first base.

Right now, we ride the Reddick train until it cools off. Hopefully by then the Mets will be out of contention and will be sellers. I actually think that, regardless of whether the Mets are in contention or not, they're going to want to dish Beltran for the sole reason that they won't get any compensation picks for him.

Once we stop trotting Lackey out there every 5th day, we'll be fine. It's not our offense that i'm frustrated with, although they've squandered an unbelievable amount of opportunities, it's our pitching. Aceves walks 5 straight with 2 outs, scoring 2 runs. We lose by 1. Lackey walks a run in, hits a guy to push a run across, and throws a wild pitch. That's 3 runs that they shouldn't have right now. If Cam doesn't get picked off at 1st, it's tied 2-2. This team can't f***ing hit. And we've given away 5 freaking runs via walk, HBP, or wild pitch in 2 games.
