  1. From WEEI, main points in bold:
  2. VA Lineup AND Thread MOJO?!? Oh. s***. Hellickson is screwed.
  3. FWIW, Tito and Gonzo both said they expect him to play today, so hopefully that's the case. The thing is, it was just nagging at him all game. It wasn't like it was one play where he dove or slid or something and he hurt it. The last play he was in, he hit a HR and trotted around the bases. That leads me to think that it's just a minor injury, taken out for precautionary reasons, which is consistent with everything they are reporting. I don't think he'll miss a game this series, purely based on their comments and the events around the injury. As far as Youk, you're right. The guy is killing us on both sides of the ball right now. Love him for his drive, but he's a max effort guy, and when he can't give you max effort, he's not effective.
  4. Ah - My bad. I thought you were saying he was soapboxing about something, and then I did exactly what he was talking about again. Sorry man - misunderstood the comment.
  5. So you want to get rid of Theo because he made a couple bad FA signings? Lackey, Renteria, Lugo, DiceK, Jenks, Smoltz, Cameron were bad FA signings. But his drafting has netted us so much more. I would never trade better FA signings for worse drafting. Look what he's gotten us. Gonzalez (via trade of drafted prospects) Beckett (via trade of drafted prospects) Pedroia Ellsbury Lester Buchholz Bard Papelbon V. Martinez (via trade of drafted prospects) I would never trade the players that Theo has developed for a better version of the FA signings that busted.
  6. It's funny because he's implying that I used career data which is manipulative because the changing of lineups, when in fact I used 2011 data which encompasses the current year's lineup? :dunno:
  7. Exactly. This is why Joe Maddon and Kirk Gibson are both far and away better managers than Francona IMO. They both get every drop of blood out of each one of their players. Maddon seems like he's always making the right moves for the bullpen. He doesn't let a LOOGY go up against a RHH. Francona seems a whole lot more lazy. Where Maddon will change pitchers every other hitter, Francona rolls the dice and gives the matchup favor to the other team. If Maddon and Francona swapped jobs, the Sox would be 12-14 games up on the Rays right now.
  8. Well, to be fair, when I posted that, it was when Ortiz was healthy. But regardless, I see your point. I still think there is a lot of validity of those stats, though.
  9. This is true. Yeszir has a track record of suggesting primo restaurants.
  10. Francona still chews tobacco. He does what a ton of ballplayers do. Chews the double bubble, then wraps the chew with the gum. It actually makes the chew taste a lot better.
  11. The numbers I used were from 2011 specifically for that purpose. But either way, I thought Yankee228 was talking about Morrow, because it looked like he was responding to my comment that we had a significant advantage in the Wake vs Morrow game. I said that Wake vs TOR had a 5.XX ERA, whereas Morrow had a 13.XX ERA vs BOS, so that gave us a big advantage. It looked like he was arguing against that.
  12. By the 7th inning, Francona is up to his eyeballs in Double Bubble wrappers, so he can't see the game. That's why he's so bad at managing the bullpen.
  13. Exactly. I think the Sox will split, or take 3/4. All I want, though, is a split. We split with TB, then we're up 4 with 10 to play. If the Rays go 4-3 vs NYY, and 2-1 vs TOR, the Sox would have to go 2-8 to finish the season against BAL and NYY.
  14. It's almost certainly true. A "dead arm" basically is what we're describing. Loss of command is due to mechanics. Loss of velocity is due to a tired arm.
  15. They're in the AL West. For them to win the Wild Card, they have to win, the Rangers have to win, and the Sox have to lose. That's what I'm saying. I don't care about their schedule because all they have to do is beat Texas, whom they are 2.5 down on. If they catch Texas, that means Texas is losing. The Angels E# for the WC is 10. That means if the Sox go 6-8 in their last 14, the Angels have to go 10-4 to catch the Sox. Chill out fellas. We're fine.
  16. Not really. The Angels need to pass the Rangers before they get to the Sox (Angels down 2.5 to Rangers). For the Angels to pass the Rangers, the Rangers will have to lose. If the Rangers lose, the Sox will either tread water or gain ground on them. So both the Rangers and the Angels will have to pass the Red Sox for them to be in the discussion.
  17. Rays lose. Sox up 4 with 14 to play. Split the series w TB this weekend, and it's 4 with 10 to play.
  18. Beckett vs CC: 4-0. And now you're hanging your hat on Colon/Nova/Garcia. I'll take the Sox over the Yankees all day in a PS series. Bard has a mechanical flaw, obviously since it's not an ortho injury, you wouldn't understand.
  19. O's just turned a pretty nice DP, still up 4-2 on Rays, bottom 8.
