  1. No he is wrong. Today is the first time we had a BS. You can't blow a save without a save opportunity, i.e. a lead.
  2. They never had a lead on Opening day. How is that a save opportunity?
  3. He's talking about blowing 2 today and 1 on Thursday, but it was Thursday that they never had a save opportunity.
  4. I don't either. The roles will be figured out, and this team will be just fine. Having said that, I'm not going to believe in this bullpen until they give be consistent quality performances.
  5. I reserve the right to overreact after terrible losses, especially after the bullpen blows 2 in 2 opportunities in 3 games. I have zero confidence in Melancon right now, or Aceves as a closer. I think the Sox need to give Morales and Padilla both a shot at closing before going back to either Melancon or Aceves.
  6. Today, though, every overreaction is justified IMO. That was actually the worst loss in Red Sox history, in terms of how they lost it, not in terms of how meaningful the game was. The Sox have never lost a game in which they held two multiple run leads from the 9th inning on. Congratulations, Aceves and Melancon.
  7. They are the only relievers who can get outs right now. Like I said, if you're not going to go with Bard, you have to go with the hot hand. The hot hand right now is Morales and Padilla. But regardless, this bullpen needs Bard more than this rotation needs Bard.
  8. Henderson Alvarez (21 year old) v Felix Doubront tomorrow Kyle Drabek v Daniel Bard Ricky Romero vs Jon Lester 2011 vs Sox: Alvarez: 6 IP, 0 ER in 1 start Drabek: 9 IP, 12 ER in 2 starts Romero: 23.1 IP, 17 ER (6.56 ERA) in 4 starts, Obviously Bard and Doubront have no starts vs TOR. Lester vs TOR in 2011: 30.1 IP, 7 ER, 2.08 ERA in 5 starts
  9. Well to be fair, Bailey probably closes out that game today. This may very well be a case of just trying to feel out roles. Right now, if they're really not going to let Bard close, then you go with Padilla and Morales in the 8th and 9th. Morales has nasty stuff and can get guys out from either side.
  10. Bard better be closing tomorrow night, and Aaron Cook better be on the hill on Tuesday. Otherwise, this team is going to keep giving blowing games. A 30-35 loss bullpen is extremely feasible as constructed.
  11. A decent bullpen wins 2 of those games against the Tigers. I'm livid at Cherington right now for putting this team in the situation it's in regarding the bullpen. Bard needs to be the closer. Period.
  12. Bullpen is an absolute joke. Bard shouldn't get a single start. He is this teams closer. Doesn't matter how good of a start you get from your 5th man when you can't hold a 3 run lead or a 2 run lead in a single game.
  13. Get a f***ing bullpen, Cherington. Unreal.
  14. Aceves to Melancon between innings: "No man, don't throw Cabrera a FB middle in. I know, I thought I could throw it past him."
  15. Ereybody, ereybody get your Rolaids.
  16. Come on Bard, can't you close out games instead of throwing side sessions between starts?
  17. ENORMOUS hit right there!!!!!!
  18. Damn can't you be fair one time?!?!
  19. Ells needs to split a gap here.
  20. At this point, if we're keeping Bard in the rotation, I go with either Morales or Padilla as the closer for now. It's almost like you just go with the hot hand at the moment.
  21. Morales/Padilla Burnout begins in 3, 2, 1.....
  22. Morales for Closer!!!!
  23. Well, 3-2 to Ortiz, Pedey gotta be on the move at least now.
