  1. Time to give up? No, not by any means. This team is still extremely capable of making the wild card. Unfortunately, at this point, I have a really bad feeling that we're going to look up at the end of the season and see an 86 win team who won the 2nd WC and think "Wow. How in God's name did we not even win 87 games this year?!?" It just makes no sense to me at all. We have literally the exact same team as we did last season. We got rid of Lackey and Wakefield, who both posted monstrous ERA's. Our bullpen, even without Bard, Papelbon, or Bailey, still has a 3.01 ERA. That's absolutely incredible. So how in the hell did things go so damn bad? It's inexplicable. It's impossible to explain. Part of me looks at the disgusting pitching coaches that we have and I wonder what the hell McClure is doing? Even in KC, playing in the terrible AL Central, the Royals continuously had team ERA's north of 4.40, often closer to 5.00 (4.97 in 2010). So why in the hell is he even here??? It's absolutely pathetic. Farrell was a good pitching coach because he was here before Beckett, Lester, Buchholz, etc, so he owned the pitching staff. The pitchers respected him because he was there before them. That's something that none of these other pitching coaches will have. The solution?? Who the hell knows.
  2. I would say that Lester needs to go down to Pawtucket to figure his s*** out, but I was saying that same thing about Buchholz, and then he completely turned it around. So I just don't know what the hell to think anymore. The only thing I can say for sure is that for the rest of this season, I'm going to be cruising without any expectations at all. I would go as far as to say that I'm one of the most optimistic Red Sox fans that I know, I try to always see the best in every situation. That the Sox have even tempered my expectations and have made me no longer excited about this team is very telling about how poor and frustrating their play has become.
  3. Marcum and Sanchez would not be $25mm players. Not even close.
  4. I counted 8 last inning alone, but I'm not sure how many of those were tipped into the catchers mitt.
  5. Our bullpen has better starters than our rotation. Oye.
  6. PH Crawford for Nava, please.
  7. Can someone please remind me why Punto didn't take off there?
  8. Could we... nah, nah we couldn't. mmmm.... nah, nah, we couldn't. mmmmmmm..... nah nah.....
  9. Lets go Aviles, you're due for a bomb.
  10. I don't blame this on the FO at all. Who expected both Lester and Buchhholz to have an ERA over 5, and Beckett to have an ERA of 4.53 on July 22nd?? This isn't the FO's fault. How they deal with this, however, will be very interesting.
  11. Not sure how citing FIP and the significance of the stat is somehow getting mocked, but whatever.
  12. It would have been cool if Salty swung at least 1 time in those 6 pitches.
  13. Over/Under on how many more pitches Alvarez throws before he gets rid of his glasses like last time?
  14. Really need a crooked number here. Chip away at least a little.
  15. This just ruins my weekend.
  16. Remy: "Red Sox playing back trying to prevent the big inning". Uh. What's 4 runs??
