    Buster Olney reported on Baseball Tonight that if the Marlins decide to sell (which, based on the Sanchez/Infante trade and the HanRam/Bell offer, it's safe to say they have), that nobody is safe and they'll be willing to part with everyone, including Josh Johnson and Mike Stanton. I couldn't believe it either. But Olney is plugged in as well as anyone.

    The Red Sox pitchers don't need Varitek back to catch. The Red Sox pitchers need a pitching coach that they respect and, perhaps even fear a little. Someone who was with the organization when they arrived, and demanded their respect. It's really such a shame that Farrell is the Jays manager, because that's exactly who this team needs. I wish Varitek knew more about pitching mechanics because he would be an excellent pitching coach, that's the type of stern, respected voice they need in that dugout.

    By the way, sell the farm for Mike Stanton. And I'm not kidding. That's Manny Ramirez 2.0 right there. He'll mishit 35 bombs a year at Fenway.

    Yes he starts. This team lives and dies on the back of Jon Lester and Josh Beckett. That's just how it is. And that's why they're dying right now.

    The Sox need to figure out what the hell they're going to do. They need to either buy big and go for a guy like Hamels, Josh Johnson, or blow away the Mariners for Felix. Or. They need to sell pieces like Lester, Beckett, and potentially even Ellsbury. The Rangers just lost Colby Lewis, and a piece like Lester, even as bad as he's been, could be sold for a big, big profit. Beckett, if we ate $3-4mm a year, could return a bit, but would free up some space for a big offseason FA pitcher. I'm fine with either. But whatever we do, don't stand pat. And by the way - Josh Johnson is having a better year than it looks, 3.13 FIP. He's fresh off TJS, and typically it's year 2 that you really return to form and have a big year.
