  1. I've never really been a fan of personalized tees.
  2. I wouldn't want the Sox to sign him just for the years they would have to agree to. Offering like 7/70 to force the Yankees to up their ante is fine, but I wouldn't want him past his 35 season for more. I don't think CC's going to age well.
  3. How does one break a collarbone bicycling? I don't mean to insult Aceves in any way, it just seems like a strange way to pick up an injury.
  4. Pujols to third, Youkilis to left, Crawford to right. Done. Of course, if we could get Pujols to try out catching...
  5. I think, given A-Rod's past two contracts, people could easily look at Pujols and say that he deserves 10/300. And I feel like there will be a team that offers it to him. The Cardinals are in deep trouble if they can't resign Pujols. Their team wasn't good enough to win the NL Central last season, Chris Carpenter isn't getting younger and a few of their other players are getting closer to needing extensions. Unless the farm steps up in a couple years, or the team hikes up payroll (in which case, one would have to ask why they didn't just resign Pujols if they're willing to raise payroll substantially), I could see the Cardinals falling off in the NL Central.
  6. I don't think most of those people could give ML average production right now (aside from Kalish, and potentially Iglesias depending on how much value you attribute to defense). I doubt that any of them sees significant playing time next year unless there are 2 injuries at a position (i.e., both Pedroia and Lowrie get injured, or something).
  7. Best. Offseason. Ever.
  8. Strikeouts trending down every year. Has a sparkling 6.0% HR/FB pitching in Citi Field. I'd enjoy watching his 45% flyball ratio in Yankee Stadium. He's had some of his best years in the AL...but that was when he was 26-29. Since then, he's steadily been losing velocity. I also find it ironic that you use WAR, then compare the two pitchers using ERA, in consecutive sentences. If the Yankees could get a pitcher right now for 9 million that could contribute 3.2 WAR, I'm sure Brian Cashman would do a lot to get him.
  9. Beckett got married to a rocket scientist.
  10. Also surprised Ackley edges Pimeda. I thought most people had Pimeda as the clear #1 prospect of the M's organization, even with Ackley's fast rise.
  11. Liverpool improved yesterday. I am a little disappointed Arsenal didn't buy/loan (in) anyone, but I can't say I'm surprised. That front line is strong, but it'd be interesting to see if Liverpool plays 4-4-2 now. Still think that 4-2-3-1 is their best option.
  12. Kinda weird that ST is so close. It's snowed four straight days in Pittsburgh (none of it accumulated, so what's the point, really?)
  13. If we wanted to consolidate everyone's stats, a google doc might be easier for this...but I'm not sure if everyone has a Google account, or whatever you need to use it.
  14. I don't know, I feel like it would have to be like 1/4 of a season to 1/2 of a season for me to change my judgment of players purely based on how they're playing. Although some players sustain their breakout production over a season (Andres Torres and Jose Bautista come to mind), a lot of others tail off (like Nelson Cruz and Raul Ibanez). Of course, improved or decreased production would sway my opinion somewhat, but I try not to give it too much weight.
  15. I still think that the Wells trade was a worse deal (for the Angels, of course), but the Blue Jays wiped out a bit of the value they got by moving Napoli. The only explanations that I would have are 1. They don't expect to contend or keep Napoli, and want a reliever they can move for prospects midseason - something that a lot of teams seem to be going for, see Billy Beane, or 2. AA is not that smart after all. Maybe he's just a sweet talker.
  16. ...What? I understand that Francisco is not a bad reliever, but Napoli hits for power and can play catcher, and is not expensive at all...
  17. Not related, but still funny... http://angels.ocregister.com/2011/01/22/trade-in-one-word-cash/71674/ Horrible, horrible trade. I want to see the Red Sox do some more business with the Angels. I thought they were a good organization when they got Dan Haren for peanuts, but I guess they got lucky...
  18. Not cool, guys. This is because none of you fully appreciate J.D. Drew.
  19. I'm don't think Lowrie would be more valuable as a utility man, and I definitely don't think he'll perceive being a utility man as the more important job. Utility men will always produce less than a starting SS, because they play less. I feel it's more important to get as much production for as long as possible, than to worry about Lowrie's feelings when he's asked to move over for a day because he can play the position and Scutaro can't. And besides, I can't really see any player bitching if Tito asks them to slot over to third for a day. He should be understanding that he's the only one that can sub in for them. There's nothing about Lowrie to suggest that he'd pull an Albert Haynesworth.
  20. I don't think this is as big of a deal as you're making it. This is pretty much what Lowrie would be told: "You're the starting SS, but if our other players need a day off, you'll play there, since you can play positions that Scutaro can't." I'm not sure how he would take it badly at all. And he would certainly take it better than, "Sorry, you're not as good as Scutaro, so you're the utility man".
