  1. This is a different team we've been seeing. They almost look like reigning world champions.
  2. It seems like Drew is back to being a solid contributer again.
  3. Gammons reporting that Lester was looking for about a $105 million dollar contract in the offseason. He's also reporting that the Ben is seriously considering trading Lester if the contract talks don't work out.
  4. Lackey vs. Drew Hutchison. Sounds like this one is going to be all about the offenses.
  5. Why is that? Striking out means taking more pitches. When low power players put the ball into play for an out, they are also more likely to hit the ball into the infield for double plays or fielder choices.
  6. They signed CC from 2009-2015, not 2016. The real problem was that they signed him to that stupid extension. He was pretty much worth the money up until he opted out.
  7. He did post a .350 OBP/ .725 OPS in April with 3 SB and excellent defense. Young players are allowed to slump.
  8. There is a perfectly good "Small sample size, no opinion yet" option in the poll
  9. It seems like a great time to play these teams. Toronto is missing Adam Lind and Encarnacion, and NYY is missing most of its starting rotation. Now if only Tampa would make that David Price trade in the next four days...
  10. Orioles looking like they are about to lose a series 1-2 to the A's, and continue a tough west coast road trip. Their next seven opponents are playoff contenders. Also, their starting rotation still sucks.
  11. Red Sox get to 4 in a row. The rotation of Lester, Lackey, RDLR, Buchholz + 1 seems like a group that will do a ton of damage going into the second half of the season. Victorino is finally back. Nava and Bradley have turned a page. The Red Sox need some offensive help but they have been much more productive the last few weeks. I don't think they are quite out of it yet.
  12. Here are Nava's numbers from June: .313 .405 .359 .765 Here are Nava's numbers from July: .355 .429 .387 .816 Glad to see the early slump was just a fluke.
  13. Bradley has really started to turn his career around. The hits keep falling.
  14. Station, can we get a new gamethread?
  15. Let's talk about Rubby. I keep looking at his stats, and I can't believe how well he has done. 2.64 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, .225 BAA, ERA+ 151. Strikeouts have been low so far at 7.1 K/9 but its still early. 7 IP, 1 ER, 5 H 5 IP, 3 ER, 6 H 7 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 7 IP, 0 ER, 1 H 5.2 IP, 4 ER, 7 H 5.2 IP, 4 ER, 9H 7IP, 0 ER, 4 H Those are very good numbers. Break it down even further, and I realized how the runs were created. Abreu home run. Chris Davis home run. Ian Kinsler and Torii Hunter home runs. So far, the only guys who have beaten him have been some of the best players on the best offenses in the league. This is a guy who not only earned the earned the respect of Pedro Martinez, but also has some of the same blood in him. He seemingly has come out of nowhere. I would certainly prefer him over former top pitching prospect Casey Kelly who they traded for Agon in the first place.
  16. When Victorino comes back, it should be 3 spots, not 4. Holt would probably move back to the infield at either 3B or SS.
  17. I'm on both sides of the fence. I want them to either trade the whole team, or go all in. I don't want to wallow in self-misery with guys who aren't going to be here next year. They have a week to give the front office a direction to move towards.
  18. The Padres got a top 100 prospect for Huston Street. It seems to me that Koji might be even more valuable because of park factors.
  19. In June the Red Sox averaged 3 runs a game. In July so far, that number is 4.7 runs a game. Let's see how the rest of the month goes.
  20. They need another bat, absolutely. But there is no reason to trade for another bat unless they get close.
  21. Besides Holt, the entire offense has underachieved this season. The Red Sox are 0-4 on their top prospects, and the veterans all fell flat. They can turn it around, but who knows if they will. Tonight was a good start.
  22. I think he is letting the team work with what it has. There is a lot of untapped potential in the offense. If the team can sneak up to 5 games back, I see him making a trade for a bat... at 10 games back, it isn't worth wasting the prospects.
  23. Victorino and Buchholz are the keys to this team's potential comeback. If Buch pitches like he did last week, that rotation starts looking excellent again -- especially if RDLR has a say about it. If Victorino can add speed, top notch defense, and an above mendoza outfield bat to the mix, that certainly helps.
  24. Its Pedro. Hindsight is what it is, but letting him go to free agency will never make sense to me. Same with Roger Clemens. Same with Jon Lester.
  25. In all fairness, what did they do with their best pitcher in the last century?
