  1. They're desperate, sure. But dropping your superstar, a money maker, and stadium-filler may cost them more than it saves them. Plus, Reyes would be a significant improvement on 25 other teams in the majors, surely one of them can give a better deal than this.
  2. There is no creativity involved here. There are two options. One, give up a boatload of talent for Reyes. Two, take in an albatross contract from the Mets (or someone else who has prospects the Mets want) and get Reyes. I don't think they can afford the second deal. Crippling the farm system isn't the answer-- especially when you actually have major league quality depth at the position you're filling.
  3. The Red Sox have FOUR, count them FOUR guys competing for SS-- Iggy, Lowrie, Scutaro, Navarro. I'd rather use the best of that combination than trade Ranaudo and Lavarnway for a half season rental.
  4. Is your memory that short? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreal_Expos#Purchase_by_Major_League_Baseball The Montreal Expos couldn't fill a third of their stadium.
  5. Generally, mocking a moderator isn't a smart thing to do.
  6. Lineup 2 will never happen. In a span of 5 batters, 4 are lefthanded, and one is Salty. In the other span, you have 3 of your 4 better bats against LHP all bunched together. Tito will always prefer balance.
  7. I'll give you Weaver, but who is the other?
  8. Oops, sorry, I just noticed the pitch count
  9. No-hitters don't help a team. They just force a manager to make the tough decision of leaving a pitcher in for too many pitches. I'd rather a one hit victory than a no-no if it means Beckett is still Beckett next week.
  10. I'd be okay with 8 innings of Beckett and 1 inning of Papelbon, but 9 of Beckett works too.
  11. Crawford should be stealing every time he's on 1st.
  12. As a hitter, there can't be a more satisfying feeling than hitting a home run if the batter in front of you was intentionally walked. Mike Lowell hit a few grandslams that way if I recall.
  13. Daamn, that was fast. He was promoted pretty late last year, wasn't he? Catcher of the future?
  14. Have there been any new superstars pop up in the last 10 years? As someone who hasn't watched in years, the only new big name that I've heard of is John Cena... that's a long time to go without much new talent.
  15. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=6577486 Read this, and make your own decisions on the NY Mets fan relations concerning fan favorites.
  16. Beltran is making 19 million this year. Cut that in half, then add the luxury tax. That's the cost of 3 Russell Martins. I have a hard time seeing the Sox make that trade.
  17. Well, Station 13 has a mom, right
  18. The problem with both of these players is that they cost money, and prospects, and they'll cost more than they're worth next year. Reyes is looking for 120+ million. Beltran is looking for 20-30 million and I can't remember the last time he played a full season. Some combination of Reddick/Kalish or Iggy/Lowrie/Scutaro/Navarro are better options.
  19. You're not alone in this. It is hard to argue with a 26 year old, 6th overall pick, tough lefty getting another chance in the majors now that he may have fixed his control issues. That being said, I am a little concerned with forcing any unknown entity into the middle of a world series run.
  20. Welcome to Talksox.....
  21. I heard that Millwood stuff has significantly improved since he was with the Yankees. 81-82 MPH fastball with them... 88-89 with us. Anyone have a confirmation on this?
  22. Got what, exactly? He's exactly the same pitcher as he was when he entered the league. In the last ten years, exactly how is this year any different than any other? Its not like he's lost speed on his 60 MPH trick pitch. Its not like it has lost any movement. His hip and defensive mobility is much better than it was last year. Besides that, he is who he is, and who he always has been. Whether or not we like who he always has been... that is the question. Hell, why are you complaining? His only truly terrible start this year was against your twins
  23. I know this is a silly question but... is there any chance Lackey gets moved to the bullpen? Wakefield has been very solid as a starter so far.
