  1. Games 4 and 5 if necessary. Pretty big if.
  2. 1. Nah, this collapse isn't really going to happen, they'll pull through. 2. f*** the Yankees, I'm going to bed. 3. (I was at work, ofcourse I was depressed) 4. Maybe if we could only get Felix for next year.... 5. Let's go Detroit!!!!
  3. I just wanted to add AtWork's post from the 2012 Financials Thread, since it has all of the luxury cap numbers. Just to be clear, this is mostly his work, but I pretty much threw out all of his arbitration estimates(because they were terrible) and added my own, with comparisons to other players in the same positions at the same or similar arbitration years: Let me preface by saying that I calculated every player's salary by their annual average salary over the length of their contract because that is how they are calculated for the purpose of the luxury tax threshold. All figures are in millions and rounded to to the 100th. Players Under Contract Gonzalez - 20.71 Crawford - 20.29 Beckett - 17 Lackey - 16.5 Youkilis - 10.31 Matsuzaka - 8.67 Buchholz - 7.49 Pedroia - 6.75 Jenks - 6 Lester - 6 Iglesias - 2.06 Scutaro - 1.5 (cost of buyout) 123.02 total. Arbitration Eligible Players Ellsbury - 11 (comparison-- Hamilton) Bard - 4.00 (comparison-- Papelbon) Aceves - 3.00 (no comparison) Saltalamacchia - 1.80(comparison Navarro) Albers - 1.30 (comparison Chamberlain) Lowrie - 1.20(so few games played, he doesn't have a very strong case) Aviles - 1.20 Morales - 0.50 24 total. That would give us a salary of $147.02 million going into next year. If you round out the rest of the 40-man with players making an average of 0.50 million a year, that would mean our base salary going into 2012 sits at $157.02 million. The luxury tax threshold in 2012 will be $186 million. If you reserve $5 million for contract bonuses, that leaves us with just over $24 million to work with in free agency next year to sign a DH, a starter, a closer, a shortstop, a backup catcher and possibly a right fielder. The arbitration may be a little off, but they're all in the right ballpark.
  4. Below value contract? He costs 20 million next year. It may be below value, but that's still a s*** ton of money to a small to mid market team. Halladay, Greinke, Sabathia, and Cliff Lee have all been traded in the last three years.
  5. I think that it may be possible to sell Lackey as someone who went through emotional turmoil, which affected his performance. The change in environment would probably work wonders for Lackey. The problem is that it would be a huge PR hit to the NYM organization, and I would bet that Lackey's divorce and on-field antics will make him a tough sell to any organization, even the Mets. Jason Bay is everything that the Red Sox like in a player personality-wise, and Fenway might be able to improve his value.
  6. I like this scenario, but I don't think Papelbon is coming back to Boston. If they let him go, that's 45-60 million and two first round prospects that could be used elsewhere. I'd rather get three to five relievers like Wheeler than one Papelbon. I made this point in another thread, but he has had two season ending blown saves in the last three years. We could definitely find someone else to blow big saves for a lot cheaper.
  7. Can you give some examples? The two aging high speed-average guys that come to my mind are Ichiro and Damon, and they still have respectable speed numbers.
  8. *starts slow clap*
  9. This is the second time in three years that we've seen the season end with him on the mound. He's not worth the 4/60 that some are predicting.
  10. The player option is 3 million. The team option is 6 million. The buyout is 1.5 million. You're essentially paying 4.5 million to bring him back. And that's if you can't negotiate a better deal with him. Do you know what he's worth on fangraphs? They say he was worth 13 million this year. Dictionary of Palodios: Affordable: (uh-ford-a-bull) adj. 1) A word used to define a gritty 13 million dollar SS who can play any infield position for 4.5 million.
  11. How does an affordable one year deal for a good player who can play multiple positions hurt this team's flexibility?
  12. Wow Dojji. Replacing Scutaro, Ortiz, Varitek and Drew with a pile of rookies? Why am I not surprised hahaha. Seriously though, Scutaro hit .299 this year, is available for 6 million(or maybe less) and is the perfect model of a true team player. He's the starting shortstop in 2012 barring any crazy deals, or Bartolo Colon Surgery for Iggy.
  13. Bump.
  14. That's an interesting idea-- moving Crawford to center. He's been pretty worthless in left, so it might be worth considering.
  15. Look on the bright side everyone. Atleast we get free tickets from RSFFL out of the deal:lol:
  16. Catcher ERA? You do understand how much Beckett f***s up that statistic, right?
  17. Eck!
