  1. It does mean he's more likely to be healthy and stay healthy, which also means he's more likely to hit closer to his prime, a .800 OPS or so. With the protection of the Red Sox lineup, and a much better park to hit in, I think he'll do well. Remember that he did come from the worst offensive team in the league afterall.
  2. Hey, he can't be any worse than Cameron, right?
  3. Per 150 games, he's hit 20 HRs, and 74 RBIs over his career. If they really did get him for 2 million, this is an absolute steal.
  4. Why? Take him out of Oakland, and he's probably a .360-.370 OBP guy. What more can you ask for in a #8/9 hitter?
  5. I'm officially denouncing the Ortiz move. If it cost Scutaro, I hate hate hate the move. But I just don't know how you could blame BC for much else. He had 25-30 million to fill DH, SS, 2 SP spots, closer, and maybe setup. You can't fill six significant positions at 4 million a piece, you just can't, but I honestly thinking he's doing the best job he can without even touching the farm system. It impresses me a lot that he's kept the team's prospects and filled some key holes. I think we're close, he just needs to make some finishing touches.
  6. THE PATS ARE GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL!!!!!
  7. Teams have budgets. Numbers that they like to stick to. They still have profit margins that they would like to remain at, even if you don't necessarily agree with those margins. Just because they can afford to break the luxury cap doesn't mean they can afford to bust it.
  8. Fred, what you're missing is that the Red Sox are going over the luxury tax. They went over by several million last year, and signing Oswalt, and another 2-3 million dollar player will put them pretty much exactly where they were last year.
  9. Not any DHs, no. Once again, please clarify.
  10. Can you clarify this? I've been looking a long time to find players to compare Ortiz to, and the closest contracts are all in the 12 million dollar range or lower.
  11. On the other hand... Oswalt has never won a World Series. If he puts the work in, who knows, this could be his year?
