I have very limited minor league knowledge, but based on what I've heard about Johnson, I'm on board. He might have a peak of a #3 type pitcher, but can you really ever get enough #3 type pitchers? The Red Sox lack pitching depth, and it sounds like this is a guy who is highly probable to be ready by 2014.

Maybe they realized it is a weak draft, and went for broke. Best case scenario, they get him, worst case scenario, they get a very good pick in next year's draf.

That shouldn't make a difference this year-- unless some team is willing to give up on the rest of their draft's money to sign him.

After hearing so much about this draft, it sounds like most of the best players decided to go into the draft early last year to maximize their signing bonuses. Anyone have any knowledge about what the Red Sox are thinking/ or the quality of the players between 30-40?

Wow. Just wow. This game was wide open, 40 seconds, with enough time for one possession per team for the best team to win it. And the refs screwed it up. Ugh.

This. Castro is going to cost a ton, and you're paying for his potential, not for his results. If you're going to give a big haul, why not give it to get a guy that 1) fills a major need for the team, 2) Will help the team now, and 3) Isn't coming from the team whose executives -- Epstein and Hoyer-- will bend over your farm system on its knee and tell it whose its daddy is.
