He's had exactly one bad season in his career and several decent-to-excellent ones, and he's 26 years old. Definitely worth a hard look.

Give him a real catcher, and watch him turn back to the real Lester. His decline and Salty's prominence are far too coincidental for my tastes.

Garza is an injury risk #2 at best. He's not worth second tier prospects. The only way I can see a deal happening is if Theo really likes some of his old third tier draftees like a Wlson/Hassan/Ranaudo/Linares, but I wouldn't count that out.

Lillibridge was outrighted to AAA, and is now a free agent. I wonder if he'd be willing to come back and play shortstop.

The Red Sox's current count is around 90-100 with arbitration and the three signings so far.

Honestly, I don't think I would have a problem giving him a contract similar to V-mart. 4/60 seems like an overpay, but 4/52 is not bad at all for a guy averaging 30 home runs per 150 games. He's going to get paid, but I think he's one of the better options out there.

Their OPS and OBP are close to identical. Here's another fun fact I just learned about Napoli-- He's been #3 in the majors for pitches taken the last two years. Blame the lineup if you want, but he'll have just as good a lineup in Boston.

Here's a question: Will the Red Sox spend as much on Napoli as Vmart's 4/52 contract? It seems like a valid comparison-- similar stats, similar defensive skill sets. Napoli has better skills as C, and Vmart has better skills at 1B, but both are projected to be DHes by the end of a 4 year contract.

I think the problem is that they are looking at "making a splash" in the wrong ways. They could avoid the elite-elite players and buy an absolute ton of very good free agent players on short term deals. Completely re-tooling a team with talent is making a splash. They could also re-sign Ellsbury to a good deal too-- he's a fan favorite among pink hats and would definitely help the team and money-making parts of the organization.

Have the Red Sox re-evaluated their rule for no alcohol in the clubhouse? Hamilton on the Red Sox could get mighty complicated.

It would definitely be a big PR hit, that's for sure. It is going to be closer to 150-160 I would think.

I don't think any of us would hesitate for a second to give Sanchez 4/60. But his stats are very similar to guys like Beckett/ Lackey/Burnett when they received 5/80 contracts, and with inflation I would not be surprised to see him get in that range-- especially since he is not going to cost a 1st round draft pick.
