  1. Ellsbury would definitely mean a three team trade. Ellsbury to a contender for prospects, and those prospects and possibly more prospects for a pitcher. Anyone giving up an elite or high-tier pitcher doesn't want a one year rental on Ellsbury.
  2. The rumor right now is 160. He's really not worth that at all.
  3. Garza. Johann. Price. Cahill. Vargas. Floyd. There are pitchers out there who are semi-available. Go get 'em.
  4. The other thing to point out is the defense. Defense will decline a bit at 1st and stay about the same at LF , but it improves significantly at SS, 3B, RF, and C.
  5. Maybe you have the players mixed up? Bourn regresses from 2009 through 2011, and then pops up for a contract year.
  6. His career year was 2011. Having one bad year isn't regressing for a couple of years.
  7. In case you or anyone else missed it: Player A's career .255/ .336/ .422 /.758 Player B's career .275/ .341/ .430/ .771 Player C's career .272/ .339/ .365/ .704 Player D's career .281/ .333/ .424/ .757 A= Upton. B = Victorino. C= Bourn. D=Pagan.
  8. The Mike Cameron comparison is silly. Victorino just turned 32. Mike Cameron was 37.
  9. I've been calling for Victorino all offseason. Admittedly, for a third of the price they picked him up for... but at his best, he's a franchise caliber player, and he is a guy with plenty of playoff World Series experience.
  10. It doesn't even need to be Ellsbury-- Bradley is a guy who might bring back a pitcher. This move gives the team a considerable amount of flexibility-- Ben can move any combination of Bradley/Kalish/Brentz/Ellsbury now.
  11. Shoot, I mixed up Upton and Victorino. They're all in there for comparison now.
  12. Player A's career .255/ .336/ .422 /.758 Player B's career .275/ .341/ .430/ .771 Player C's career .272/ .339/ .365/ .704 Player D's career .281/ .333/ .424/ .757 A= Upton. B = Victorino. C= Bourn. D=Pagan.
  13. This topic is silly. Going into 2012, Victorino was an absolute stud. .847 OPS, .355 OBP, 17 home runs, 19 steals, 27 doubles, 16 triples, elite-elite defense in center, tons and tons of speed. He had 6 wins above replacement. That's pretty damn good. Was he overpaid? Sure. But Victorino is a very very good player. At his worst he's still solid. At his best, he's a franchise player.
  14. I voted pitching. But I had posted this in another thread and I think it is relevant-- Whoever the Red Sox get for RF needs to make sense for the team, and needs to be reasonably priced.
  15. Anything you can say to help me prove a point is always appreciated I just ran down the list on ESPN, and he was on the top. So the list of elite first basemen is even shorter then.
  16. The first basemen market is very different than it was a year or two ago. Youk and Miggy moved to third. Pujols and Texeria have declined. A-gon fell off a cliff. Morneau hurting, Votto hurting. Here are the highest five OPSes of first basemen in 2012: Encarcion -- .941 Fielder-- .940 Allen Craig .876 Albert Pujols .859 Paul Konerko .857 Napoli has a .870 career OPS despite playing most of his career in LA on his knees.
  17. I just don't get the need for Hamilton. He's had one great year, but besides that he's a 4 WAR guy. Is he really worth 60 million more than the rest of the field? Hamilton 2011-- 4.1 WAR, 2012 4.4 WAR Swisher 2011-- 3.8 WAR, 2012 3.9 WAR Victorino 2011-- 5.9 WAR, 2012 3.3 WAR Bourn 2011 -- 4.1 WAR, 2012 6.1 WAR
  18. Victorino is a pretty good fit for the Sox. They want a RHH, he's a switch hitter who hits better as a RHH. Right field in fenway is very spacious and needs a player with a good arm. Victorino is very fast and has a great arm-- perhaps his great defense won't lose value in RF. His entire skillset is usually good for a 4-6 WAR every year and he's going to get a pretty low contract considering how good a player he is. Up until last year, Victorino was an absolute stud, core player, and now he can probably be had for 3/40.
  19. The rumors about Hamiltion and the Rangers are pretty crazy. Half of the sources are saying that the Rangers want absolutely nothing to do with him and won't even meet him, and the other half say they are the favorites. It makes me wonder if they're trying to bring down his value so they can swoop in and re-sign him.
  20. This is a phenominal move in many ways. 1) Adding a monster bat to the lineup. 2) Using Vmart as a comparison, the Red Sox seriously underpaid for Napoli. One less year, 500k fewer bucks per year before factoring inflation. 3) No draft pick given up to sign him. 4) Takes yet another catcher off the free agent market place, increasing Salty's trade value. 5) Tells free agents that this team is very serious, without hurting their payroll to a point where it will prevent them from making more signings.

  22. The problem for the Yankees isn't losing Arod's production. The problem here is that any trade value he once had is probably gone. 50 cents on the dollar is very optimistic-- a 37 year old steroid user with two bad hips and lots of bad other things?
  23. I would say that Buccholz 2010 or Lester 2008-2010 are comparable or better. Hell, 2008 Dice-k received more cy young votes than 2011 Beckett. Beckett is the most overrated player in all of baseball.
  24. When it comes to players as extremely talented as Brandon Webb, there is always the temptation to deny all logic and reason and give him a 1/1 contract.
