  1. The key number for WMB is .906. That's his OPS against lefthanded pitchers in 2012. If he sniffs that again, this team's WS chances get much better.
  2. I would give qualifying offers to Ellsbury, Stephen Drew, and maybe Uehara and Napoli. I say maybe, because there is no way in hell they should even let negotiations even get that far with Uehara -- if he doesn't retire, they need to lock him up. They need to check out the market for 1B, but a qualifying offer might make sense, even if it means we have to see him another year. I'd rather hold onto Napoli for one more year than pay 30-40 million for injury-prone Morales and give up a first rounder at the same time. I see the Red Sox making a push for Brian McCann, getting outbid by the Yankees, and re-signing Salty. I'm not thrilled about it, but his .864 OPS against righthanded hitters is probably worth it, assuming they can find a suitable platoon partner for him.
  3. The problem with Stanton is that he'll cost a brick-ton of prospects AND money. Would you rather have Stanton or.... Shin-Soo Choo + Bogaertz + Bradley + Owens + Britton. There isn't a player in the majors who is worth 150 million + Bogaertz + two other top 100 prospects.
  4. Morales was activated tonight. Thornton will be back in a week. Alex Wilson is on the way Britton and Workman have looked like they have the potential to be very effective. If they need another guy, I bet they will be looking at guys like Beato, Mortensen, RDLR, Wright, Webster and Aceves. Not great options, but better than giving up tons of talent for a fat, over the hill and overpaid reliever.
  5. Britton and Workman are both young guys. One or two bad outings from either of them isn't the end of the world. That being said, Workman pitched a monster 5th inning today.
  6. Woah woah woah woah!!! They called up Middlebrooks? When?
  7. Taking a look at the calendar.... it looks like Greinke and Kershaw will both miss the series against the Red Sox unless the Dodgers skip one of their pitcher's starts.
  8. The Rays have gone 2-5 in the last seven games since Matt Moore went on the DL. Even if it only costs them one or two wins, these weeks are the wins they need. Once they hit August 23rd, their schedule gets insane.
  9. Thornton isn't all that hurt though. He was surprised and disappointed when he heard he was put on the DL -- they just needed an extra arm for the pen, and DLing him was the way to do it. He'll be back at the end of the DL trip just fine.
  10. Seriously, Holt, if you're going to suck, can you atleast TRY to grow a beard?

  12. No LOB for Napoli in that at bat !!
  13. The real blessing of this season is that both Santana and Shields are right handers...
  14. Beard mojo? http://jwtalk.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/bearedSmiley.gif
  15. You know what would make my night? A good solid Red Sox win.
  16. Chen is out! Man, that shouldn't be that important.... http://emoticoner.com/files/emoticons/smiley_faces/lol2-smiley-face.gif
  17. Scoring off Bruce Chen =/= a miracle.
  18. I feel like I've watched the last several of the come-from-behind victories. They're exhausting, and afterwards someone who didn't even watch the game bitches about your comments in the thread. Exhausting.
  19. Yankees would snag Snyder in a second. Remember... this is a team who picked up Lillibridge.
  20. The Yankees probably aren't signing him. Gardner is probably best suited for center field, and the Yankees get more value out of grabbing someone like Pence or Choo for one of the corners. Or they give Grandy a qualifying offer, which he'd probably accept. There are plenty of expensive players that fit the Yankees team, but Ellsbury probably isn't one of them right now.
  21. Red Sox 95-67 Rays 93-69 Orioles 88- 74 Jays -- 83 - 79 Yankees 76-86 I expect the Rays to burn out during their brutal September, but then finish strong. The Red Sox keep churning out heroes. The Jays fight for a winning season, and the Yankees take a dive for a better draft pick.
  22. With the new system, it doesn't work that way. All compensation picks are sandwich picks. However, with the new monetary system, even though the pick itself isn't as valuable as a first rounder, the added financial gain is more valuable, and helps sign overslot players later in the draft. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/11/explaining-qualifying-offers.html
  23. Its official. The 2013 Red Sox are better than the 2012 Red Sox.
  24. Stephen Drew. I want to formally apologize for requesting you to be designated for assignment.
