  1. I agree with the last line. I would much rather see Mookie in a Sox unit one last year than see him traded for minor league filler.
  2. I have read two articles from independent national writers who both suggested that up until now he was the most qualified guy in baseball without the GM title.
  3. Sox have signed Ray's exec Chaim Bloom to be the axe man. Supposedly a great hire. https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2859744-report-chaim-bloom-finalizes-contract-to-replace-dave-dombrowski-as-red-sox-gm.amp.html?%24deeplink_path=article%2Fbleacherreport.com%2Farticles%2F2859744-report-chaim-bloom-finalizes-contract-to-replace-dave-dombrowski-as-red-sox-gm&%24fallback_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsyndication.bleacherreport.com%2Famp%2F2859744-report-chaim-bloom-finalizes-contract-to-replace-dave-dombrowski-as-red-sox-gm.amp.html&_branch_match_id=684608118270545906

    Celtics

Ladies and gentlemen, your GE celtics! http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-01-25/ge-deal-with-boston-celtics-said-to-be-over-7-million-a-year
  6. The dreaded PTBNL. Hopefully it works out better than he last time the Cubs dealt us a PTBNL. (Theo deal)
  7. Why not convert him to a 1B as opposed to trading him for one?
  8. It could have been building. Maybe they already knew about the other guy who Hernandez shot and the other gun incidents he was involved in.
  9. $16M for several years of Jacoby is a steal compared to $13M for several years of the Flyin' Hawaiian.
  10. I am kind of hoping Melky won't be all that much of an improvement, he has been unspectacular in he past. The Blue Jays sure are working hard though.
  11. I'm glad they chose to sit on their hands in this case.
  12. Not exactly all needs filled. The Sox still would need 1B and OF additions. We could also use a closer who doesn't end up on the DL after he hurt himself tying his shoes.
  13. Aviles is on the move again. According to CBSSports he was traded along with Yan Gomes to the Guardians for righty reliever Esmill Rogers.
  14. Oops, missed this in the rotation thread
  15. ESPN reported tonight that the Cubs have traded Carlos Marmol to the Angels for Dan Haren.
  16. Done deal, 2 years $26M according to EEI. I for one, am glad to have him back.
  17. to the Royals for a 27 yo minor league reliever named Brandon Sisk. Quite a steal for KC if Santana can return to '10-'11 numbers. CBSsports describes Sisk as a career minor leaguer who may be a situational lefty if he ever reaches the majors.
  18. By Peter Abraham, Globe Staff "Here are the top 10 Red Sox prospects according to Baseball America: 1. SS Xander Bogaerts 2. OF Jackie Bradley 3. RHP Matt Barnes 4. RHP Allen Webster 5. LHP Henry Owens 6. C Blake Swihart 7. 3B Garin Cecchini 8. OF Bryce Brentz 9. SS Jose Iglesias 10. SS Deven Marrero For those curious, RHP Rubby De La Rosa was not eligible under BA's rules because of his MLB experience. In term of 2013, Iglesias and maybe Brentz or Bradley could impact the Red Sox. Bogaerts turned 20 on Oct. 1 and has played only 23 games in Double A. In other Red Sox news so far today: -- Terry Francona has named former Red Sox coach Brad Mills as his third base coach in Cleveland. No surprise there given their long friendship. Francona also hired former Sox catcher Kevin Cash as the bullpen coach. Cash had been working as a scout for the Blue Jays. Cash has all the qualities that suggest he will be a manager someday. -- The only known candidates to become pitching coach of the Red Sox are Rick Peterson and Juan Nieves. Peterson was Baltimore's minor league pitching coordinator. Nieves is the bullpen coach in Chicago and has worked under the well-regarded Don Cooper. Nieves, 47, graduated from Avon Old Farms in Connecticut before pitching parts of three seasons in the majors."
  19. We expected something back for Theo last year and when we found out we really didn't get anything we were able to move past it. Whatever their opinions are on Aviles they'll move past it pretty quickly also.
  20. I agree that the Sox only need a few tweaks to back to .500 at worst, especially if Lackey comes around. The only real correction I make here is that you twice referred to Lind as an OF. He really is a 1B.
  21. Bring back Hale as the bench coach and let him handle or at least have a say in the running decisions.
  22. Bring back Hale as the bench coach and let him handle or at least have a say in the running decisions. See below, I missed quoting a700hitters' comment
  23. They got McGahee for a waiver wire player.
  24. There should be no doubt that it is a joy seeing Ciriaco out there but I don't want anything to do with seeing Iggy out there. Send him to the national league where he might have some strategic value. The guy simply can't hit.
  25. I'd put my money om Youk to return to form before either of these two producing. The Red Sox are paying all of them and the best bet is Youk IMO. Coup for the Chisox.
