Winning the division was always expected of the Yankees. First round exits in the playoffs was never acceptable for George, he even threatened to fire Torre if they didn't make it to the ALCS in '07. Perhaps reaching the WS every year is a bit much, but I think they need to at least win a series in the playoffs for the season to be considered a success.
