I think anyone besides Drew fans would say Markakis. He can do it all- hit for power, drive runs in, get the steal(although he's slowed down on that), make the play. Great great ball-player.

It'd be nice if we could find a REASONABLE end-of-the-rotation starter on waivers and then go ahead and dump either Smoltz or Worth-a-Penny.

Looks like this whole debate about lineups is going to become even more frequent from here on out. And oh yeah Ells, can we have yet another catch of the day? It's becoming a tradition.

I don't know if it's safe to rate him just yet but as of right now, I'd give him something in the range of Bs. Like others said, he did a great job not having to get rid of guys like Bard, Buchh, Bowden for V-Mart and suddenly, our C spot(if or when he plays there) might go from a hole in the lineup to a strong spot. On the other hand, there's still the whole Krotch/Rochey deal(can't YET comment on that though) and the fact that we didn't get another arm. Our rotation has struggled and it hasn't gotten better.

Yup, they're saying Hagadone and Masterson: Wow, nice deal if we got out of this without losing either Bard, Bowden or Buchh. I know Mart isn't the best of catchers but he makes the lineup more flexible knowing that he can play both catcher and 1B. He could take over Tek in the near future or he could (well, most likely will) play first for now pushing Youk to third(although it kind of makes LaRoche useless). The best part about this deal, though, is that we didn't negatively affect our pitching situation.

Well, the Dodgers are going to be tough to get by in the 8th and 9th with Sherrill and Broxton. That bullpen's really gonna help in the playoffs.

When I go to a movie, I don't care about the actors' personal lives. Them taking coke in that situation is unnecessary personal information. A baseball player taking PEDs is not personal information, it's an infraction on the sport and it's a cheap attempt to bypass the system in order to become a better baseball player in the wrong fashion. The two situations are incomparable. I watch sports because I want to see natural talent not to see what science can do to man. E: Boy, a lot of trolls visit this forum it seems...

Papi .... I don't care what anyone says, it hurts. This is not the biggest selfish jerk in baseball(aka Manny) or A-hole, this is Big Papi- the happy-go-lucky fun-loving guy that even opponents love. Nobody hates Big Papi. But it's not so much that he took them but that he lied...hard(see that quote that someone posted already). Someone will probably come in and tell me how retarded I am for not already knowing this or to wake up but I don't believe in this culture of acceptance. We've been lied to so many times that we've come to accept it. Whether one person pops the pills or 5000, I don't care, it's still wrong and should be frowned upon. I'm not going to go out and say it's fine to save face because I fear the 2004 team had a load of roiders or because I know there's more news to come. I'll condemn it every time. I don't buy into this crap of accepting it because if you accept it, you allow it. And if you allow it, the game will be filled with cheats forever. It probably doesn't bother too many people, but it bothers me. I'll never see Papi the same way I used to.

It's nice to dream but Gonzo is so cheap (and I'd argue perhaps best value in the league) that the Padres can actually afford him. So, he's relatively young, he comes for less than 5 mil at the moment, he can hit 35 HR, he's the fanbase's only bright spot in a lineup as dry as a desert and of course, he's a hometown boy. No chance we get him. To add, like it's already been said- I don't think it's a priority as much as it's a luxury so to clean the farm team for a luxury when we could go out and get something we need(like a top 3 starter) is not very smart. Thinking about it now, the Padres will probably check out the market to see what he can give them(because a package of good prospects will help them much better than a crap team with one star long term) but the fact that he's so cheap indicates that there's not going to be much urgency.

Because I just don't get it. I come in with a little love for a player and get the title of gay. Ellsy's got the stuff I love to see in a baseball player: speed, grit, athletic ability, great defense etc. Hence, the admiration. That's it.

I was just wondering- my avatar was originally size 200x145 and only 55.4 KB and now it's down to 150x109. I know it was originally over 150x150 but if it was under 205KB shouldn't it work?
