  1. I haven't been getting his recent tweets today. This guy either is very creative or he has a mole in the Phillies organization feeding him stuff nobody else is getting. It would make sense they are focusing on Lee and Young. They have so many pieces they can deal it seems they should be able to work something out. Hate to deal Bradley. But maybe they are content to keep Ellsbury and are stuck with Vic for 3 years.
  2. Clearly, the Rays. They are vulnerable to LHP in a short series, and the Rays have two wins in Price and Moore almost assured. The Rays also play better smallball, and have the advantage in close games.
  3. I wouldn't do Bogaerts in any deal. The trick is to get either of these guys without giving up Bogaerts. I would do the Lee deal. I don't think Stanton is available. Peavy and Lee will probably get traded by the deadline. It's a question of balancing prospects and money. The better the prospects, the more the Phillies and the WSox may have to absorb in salary. Especially the Phillies, with the size of Lee's contract. The Red Sox are in great position, because they have multiple prospects and can afford to deal them for Lee and have the Phillies absorb some of Lee's salary. That may be the main point of contention right now. With Stanton, salary isn't an issue. It's a question of prospects and whether the Marlins want to deal him. Also, the Red Sox may be more focused on pitching right now.
  4. The main problem with the rotation right now is Buchholz. The guy hasn't pitched for 2 months and is still an unknown. It's remarkable they have been able to stay at or near the top without him. The games against the Rays have exposed a real problem with their lineup--they don't have enough RHd power hitting when facing LHP. Moore and Price have beaten them 3 times the last 4 or 5 games. Middlebrooks was supposed to be their RHd power, but he was farmed out. Bogaerts is hitting well in AAA, but he's no help there. Pedey has been slumping in July as bad as Iggy, and has lost his power stroke this year. The management is caught between a rock and a hard place. They have a stockpile of prospects in AAA they don't want to trade (at least that's what the media says), and they don't want to bring up. Sure they'll be up in September when the rosters expand, but that may be too late in this division.
  5. Nothing much this morning. Rosenthal says Red Sox should give up Bogaerts for Lee, much like they gave up Hanley R. for Beckett. He doesn't say that Epstein didn't make that trade for Beckett--in fact, he probably wouldn't have. He didn't like to trade top prospects. If the Red Sox do a deal for Lee, it will probably come from Henry-Lucchino, as most things of this size do, anyways. And, if you believe that rumor, it will involve Bradley, not Bogaerts. Even if they get Lee, they are still vulnerable to LHP, in my view. They don't have Manny and Lowell. Though they could be better if they brought up Middlebrooks and Bogaerts for platooning vs LHP. They know they have a problem, which is why they are trying to get Young. But Young has never been a power hitter.
  6. According to that tweetsource, Bradley is who the Phillies want. Plus Barnes and Cecchini. The players seem to be acceptable to the Red Sox. It's the money that's unsettled. They want the Phillies to pay half Lee's salary. Less than that if Young is included. Sounds plausible. Trade Rumors has reported they are talking, but Red Sox didn't want to deal "top prospects." Maybe they're willing to trade Bradley. They have a lot of "top prospects." There is other speculation about "NL execs saying that Amaro is going to move Lee, Boston a likely source." There is smoke, but no fire yet.
  7. The guy is telling the world he needs a day off. 3 for 39 since the all-star break.
  8. Merloni tweeted Farrell should have pinch run Iggy for Nava. You have to use percentages to win these games. Can't miss stuff like that. Speed on the bases in low run games can be vital.
  9. maybe. no one else is reporting this--so far. though this guy has been developing the story for awhile. a chance he has an inside source. They lost a typical game they should have won to the Rays tonite. The fundamentals to win these games seems to be lacking. Not using speed on the bases, for example (Iggy should have pinch run for Nava).
  10. They have bigger fish to fry, if the rumor about Lee is true. The names include Bradley, Barnes and Cecchini. Also Young. They want Phillies to pay half Lee's salary.
  11. https://twitter.com/ALLsportsINTEL we'll see. following this guy's tweets, his source, if any, is in the Phillies org.

  14. the tweet source on Lee is from a guy named Rich Smith of "allsportsintel" in NJ, who claims to have a Phillies source. we'll see.
  15. breaking news on tweets. Red Sox closing in on Lee deal with Phillies. Young may also be involved. Talking about money now.
  16. Tweets say Red Sox closing in on Lee deal with Phillies. Young maybe included. Talking about money now.
  17. The tweets say Red Sox closing in on Lee deal. With and without Young. Talking about money now.
  18. That's next year. Right now, they need more rhd hitting against lhp. That means Middlebrooks-Bogaerts at 3B-SS.
  19. Yeah, the numbers have slipped the last couple months. They are 7th or 8th right now in AL pitching.
  20. Unwise not to move him with his age and salary. They will settle for the best deal at the last minute.
  21. They are stacked with guys in AAA who can help them right now, but they are holding off with the status quo. Bogaerts and Middlebrooks can boost their hitting. Maybe they are holding back until after the trade deadline, but bringing up lesser players like Snyder and Holt isn't doing them much good (ha. Snyder hits a HR off Price tonite).
  22. doesn't look that way. it was a conditional deal--no players exchanged until end of season--depending on what Crain does. that sounds good to me.
  23. They have been slow in replacing them--getting unreal performances out of Uehara, Tazawa and Breslow, but how long will that last? Thornton is the only reinforcement and he is only a loogy replacement for Miller. Morales is supposed to be back soon. The problem is you can't make plans based on the best possible scenario. More likely the worst often happens. That holds for Buchholz, too. No guarantees there.
  24. The Rays stole Crain right out from everybody's noses. A conditional deal. His X rays look OK. Where were the Red Sox on him? It's the Red Sox that need to reinforce their bullpen. As it is, if they had to face Price every game against the Rays, it would be all over. They can't take pitches against this guy. They should have played that game the other night not to face him tonite.
  25. 72 pitches in 6 innings. OK he throws a lot of first strikes. So take the next pitch, too. Chances are it won't be a strike. They'll never beat this guy swinging away.
