    No one I know expected the Yankees to play poorly for long. I never heard anyone say that there was little or no competition between the two teams. The Yankees just were not clicking early in the season. Getting A-Rod back has been big. And the pitching has stabilized to the point where that line-up can win most games.

    Just for shits and giggles, let's see if we can get an objective opinion here. Hey Jacko... do you think Drew was worth 14/5 when he was signed (given the prevailing market for players like him) and do you think that he is worth 14/5 now given his performance with the Sox to date?

    Everyone here has to. Has anyone actually said that they hate Drew? NO! Just disappointed that he has not done more to earn his pay.

    That is a good question! My guess is that Bowden has not made the progress this year that they have expected of him. I certainly don't know. I should really have spent some time at McCoy this year. I've had the summer off and I live about 11 miles away. I'm still very interested in seeing Tazawa start. I think he may be what is needed now. Options do appear sort of thin at the moment. I think it's kind of ironic that a Kid that made the decision to come here largely because his idol pitches here is now in the rotation and the idol is not. Also, the Sox now have 4 Japanese pitchers. Is that a first for a MLB team?

    I'm actually looking forward to the preseason games. I like to see the new talent that the Pats have acquired. I live only 6 miles from Gillette and usually go to see them practice but have been lazy this year.

    I realize that the timing of Lowrey's return and attempt to play back into condition collided with the non-waiver deadline somewhat. But I would really like to have had seen O'Cab back. Very solid D, good bat, and a clutch player. Even if he was bangin' other player's wives or what ever. This move, if it happens, underscores the terrible problems that the Sox have at the position. He's just a stop-gap measure. We need a MLB SS, yes. But this guy is no bargain. O'Cab would have been better at considerably less money.

    No one questions that he has stuff. Maybe the "guts" are becoming apparent. I just wonder about his smarts and maturity. I think that is what differentiates him from a younger Jon Lester. He needs time in the bigs. We'll see.
