  1. I saw that last night and laughed. That Pedroia!!! He has a natural humor. That alone justifies his contract!!!!
  2. But the proof remains in the pudding. Until the Cubs win consistently they are just another team that does not win regardless of Theo's machinations.
  3. The Cubs don't make the playoffs this year. The Cards will be tough once again and Pittsburgh got better minus the loss of Russell Martin. Not this year Wonder Boy.
  4. Farrell has stated that Swilhart will be up at some point this season.
  5. I don't get it. Everyone is all over Vasqueze's s*** for not being an offensive force yet a scrub like this guy comes along and can't hit worth a s*** and he is league average??????????? Maybe he can learn on the job in MLB?????? I thought Vasquez showed good promise at the plate in 2014. He ended up with "only" a .240 BA. I thought that was better than what most catchers provide from what I have seen. With defense as good as his I don't know why so many people were saying "if he could only hit .260 he could be very valuable". Whatever.
  6. No wonder the Dodger organization has thought that Black people can not manage a team. I never realized that Baker was such a dolt. I read today that one of the big reasons that the Twins are going nowhere fast is their aversion to Metrics. They just won't use them to their advantage. Well at least Minnesota a great state fair.
  7. What happened to Santana? I missed it. I was driving.
  8. He must be a spectacular defender if he is considered anywhere near replacement level with a .156 BA. Oye. In any case the loss of Vasquez is not likely going to determine the Sox fate in 2015.
  9. No. I don't think so. Hanigan will be okay. I know almost nothing about Leon. I still think Quintero makes some starts.
  10. This is what I see as the biggest loss with Vasquez out this year. Looks like we lost a strength that we were not accustomed to only to go back to what we have seen for so long. Unremarkable catching in a Sox uniform.
  11. He was. And he got a raw deal. I met him in 1973 at the Boston Shoot Out at B.U. Case Center. He was coaching the team from Pittsburgh. He was very understated and friendly. Of course he had no idea how a 4'10" white kid was approaching him. It was a dominantly black crowd. It's funny. People always compared Julious Erving to Hawkins yet most people who saw Erving play did not have any idea who Hawkins was.
  12. Ball Four was a great book when it was published. I think that it would be an interesting read for anyone who really likes baseball or professional sports. Another great book from the '70s is "Foul The Connie Hawkins Story". Long before Dr. J or MJ there was the Hawk. He did change the game. Unfortunately very few people saw him do it in the obscurity of minor league basketball and in the ABA. Again, if you have any interest in basketball or just sports, this is a great read. And while the topic is still freshly posted in this thread, I kind of like the old Oakland Athletics. They had many good players and a colorful, if obnoxious owner who did all that he could to raise awareness of his team in a dead market. I believe he was the man who introduced white shoes in sports. And of course he pioneered the failed and stupid idea of a designated runner. Lol!!! He actually tried to pay Vida Blue to change his name to True Blue. Ah yes, the good old days. I used to be able to sit and talk with the players in the bullpen at Fenway. Real conversations that would sometimes last for months! Now you have to pay many players for an autograph.
  13. You should drive up one weekend and visit Casa del Pedro. We could go watch the best MiLB outfield play in McCoy. That would be a fookin' blast. We could make a video of two old fat guys scouting the minors. It would go viral!!!! Image in the fireworks!!!!! And not the kind they light off st McCoy.
  14. And all three will be back up at some point. That is if the Sox can resist trading Bradley. I don't see the two remaining varsity catchers starting a full 162. And who knows when Swihart will be up? Hopefully not until mid-season at the earliest.
  15. You don't have to like or dislike it. It is usually quite a funny and sometimes scary part of baseball. Seeing the Gerbil thrown to the ground by Pedro while a little disturbing was, well, fun. Seeing Bill Lee have his career ruined was not fun.
  16. Still, I think that preventing runners from advancing on steals, etc. this year could have meant a lot to this staff. You are probably correct in saying that CS% is not all that ( especially on a team like the Sox where a lot of emphasis is put on pitchers on the batter ). I think that this year his ability to discourage and prevent runners from stealing would have meant more. I just hope that the Kid comes back strong next year one way or another. He is still an asset to this team.
  17. I remember a couple of scuffles. I don't remember seeing him really get into it though. I wanted to see some whup ass.
  18. I always wanted Coco to get into a real brawl so I could see if his Father's Golden Glove skills had been acquired. Other than that, I was satisfied with his performance here. I did hate his rag arm, though.
  19. Good luck with the promotion Dojji.
  20. "Jays add Doubront on minors deal" Lol. What a loser.
  21. Yeah. That's what I see. JBJ did not hit. It's that simple.
  22. Racism exist everywhere. The Boston area is no different. Let's get back to baseball. I still think JBJ is going to make it as a regular MLB player. Most likely somewhere else. I hope that it happens soon for the kid. He is getting older.
  23. The Sox converted Swihart to catcher when they drafted him, I think. I read that he had previously played 3rd and OF. Obviously his greatest value is his bat as a catcher. But I think in the long run he will be another Joe Mauer. Converted to another position to protect his health. This assumes that he does hit well in the Majors, of course. I don't see any urgency in any of this. I won't regurgitate what I have already said. The Sox are lucky to have catcher. Even if the MLB ready players are not all world. And if the present catchers don't get it done than the Sox will grab another catcher during the season.
