  1. I should have known this. I wrote a paper about the History Of Anti-Trust In Baseball while at Cornell in '73.
  2. I was trying to say this politely! I like the way you said it better.
  3. Yeah he got caught being too aggressive on that one. Not as bad as Hanley but the same result. At least we can be confident that Betts will do better next time.
  4. On TV that was a very strong and accurate throw that bounced once ( kind of high but playable ) and Fat Boy just did not catch it. I don't care how hard he supposedly works at his craft. He just is not very good. That runner should have been out.
  5. Porcello implosion alert.
  6. Funny thing. The light hitting Rays have six hits. The Sox four. OOOOOOkay.
  7. I saw that Longoria (?) had his hand in at second and was called safe. Then it was revered. How and why did that happen? I did not see any replay that showed that he was out! Just curious.
  8. I think that the dogs should be allowed to piss and possibly crap on the pitcher's legs and feet.
  9. That's cool. I'd be all over that! Or I would sit way up in the Euker (SP) seats and shout obscenities the entire game.
  10. I don't remember when Flood won his case but I think 1967 was prior to that. Anyway, after the 1967 season ( I believe ) the Sox Gave Yaz a huge for the day contract of $100,000. a year and there was talk about how this was more than the US President. I was gaga about the game at that point. Of course I was only 11!!! I still love the game. But I do not love the politics or or finances. I do like the idea that players can move from one team to another. That's just right. But sometimes I wish that rosters were more stable year to year. I used to be able to tell you the roster and starting 9 of each AL team. Now there is so much turnover and exchange I don't even try much anymore. Of curse the interweb has made so much info instantly available it's to easy to find anything out. You used to have to read the paper, watch TV and read the Sporting News to be up on stuff.
  11. Can you move around to better seats like box behind the plate?
  12. It may be seen as a dump but I want to the Trop to see some games. Have fun!
  13. I certainly don't disagree with most of what you say here. However, sometime last winter I read that Bard was diagnosed with some ailment that was a substantial contributor to his failure as a starter and his spiral down. I wish that I could remember the details. I do agree that even if Bard had been healthy it was probably not the best decision to make him a starter. He was very valuable and productive as a set up guy in the pen. Hanging it all on Ben may not be fair at this point. Yes, the move may have been misguided, but Bard had problems even before the move was made.
  14. I don't think that Sox ownership will do what the public wants as much as they will do what is best to sustain and increase revenues. It is a business, after all. We debate what is best to fulfill our desires for the team but ultimately the ownership will decide what is best for them personally. I have said this many times in the past and for some reason no one seems to agree. Sox ownership will make moves that they believe will create and sustain a perception of being championship driven. That is all they have to do to make boat loads of money in this market. This year is an example of that. They went out and spent freely on FA that have public appeal so they can further the idea that they are aiming for the top. No way in hell any responsible baseball exec was convinced that this team would contend for a WS championship. They succeeded in filling the stands and marketing their product. That is what they want to do each year. An occasional championship is nice. But they make their money anyway.
  15. Good. English is the language of commerce. At least it was until we sold out to the Chinese.
  16. Yup. We should all keep in mind that not all hype is accurate and that players develop in a non-linear fashion and at different rates. It may be a fact that he will never hit consistently in the majors. If I were a betting man I would not bet against him. In my view, he is light years ahead of our $72.5 mil. bust in the making. And he is several years younger too!
  17. Did you watch the game? He had solid AB, two singles and a giant assist throwing a runner out at the plate. But go ahead and hate on him. He so deserves it!
  18. Not exactly. I can't comment on his game calling as I don't know how to asses that. And while I do understand pitch framing I am not an expert on that either. What I do see is someone with near gold glove ability blocking pitches and runners and of course an accurate cannon of an arm. Ad to that the fact that he has good AB and can move a runner along when a sacrifice is called for. I see the sum of all these attributes as being much better than an average back-up catcher. Once again, Kimmi was right. I don't have one word of blame for Leone. Anyone who does probably is not watching too closely.
  19. I think that you should have a rubber ducky as your avatar.
  20. No f***ing problem. Just so you know that I am not being critical of you. We all know that I can not spell or type!!!! But I do know what you are attempting to say and thought that you would like to know exactly how to say it.
  21. I must say a word about my Binky JBJ. I know, I know, he still has to prove that he can hit in MLB. However he made several good plays in RF today ( as well as at least one over throw of a cut-off man ). I was watching with great anticipation when the runner broke from home and tested Bradley's arm. Dumb f***ing move!!!! The throw was by no means perfect ( I have come to expect great throws from him ) as it was off to the right side of the plate where Swihard had to stretch to get it and then dive back to tag the runner. Still, the throw was in the air and on time to nail the stupid Son of a bitch. Most people love to see homers and that's cool. But seeing that throw in his first game back from a positing that is not his strength was exciting. I hope that Bradley can continue to hit well enough to be an everyday player for the Sox. I look forward to seeing more idiotic green lights so I can laugh even more.
  22. I fixed that for you. That is how it's phrased here! As Ted has said we are wicked lucky that Good Buch has shown up ( at least for now! ) otherwise things would be even more awful.
  23. Yeah. AS much as I have enjoyed Leone he is likely the odd man out.
