  1. So maybe Cespedes, Cecchini, and a pitching prospect for Cueto? Would think that would at least get the conversation rolling pretty good.
  2. Absolutely no one with legit cred in the business is supporting the 14 yr old kid's take on Lester being signed, sealed, and delivered to Theo's doorstep. He's just regurgitating Incarcerated Bob's tweet and using it as his own. Pretty sure anyone who followed him (myself included) has been had for a bit now.
  3. This. This. And more of This. Howard's days as a top level bat have long since passed. The Sox should have zero interest in bringing him on board, regardless of how a potential Hamels trade shakes out.
  4. I'm ok with giving him 6/100 for many of the reasons others have posted already... weight issues aside, he's still relatively young (28), plays a premium position of need for the Sox, plays it well defensively, hits for power and average consistently, ability to switch hit, and can easily transition to DH/1B once Papi is done. And it's not as if the 6/100 contract would be that large of an albatross for the Sox to overcome if he ended up becoming a dud for us in 3-4 years either, considering the resources ownership has at their disposal. They can easily afford him and not worry if things don't go as planned.
  5. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/10/latest-on-joe-maddon.html Most recent scuttlebutt is that the Cubs will be front and center for Maddon's services... interesting that the Rays feel tampering might be in play though. Not sure how they'd be able to prove it, but interesting nonetheless.
  6. If the Phillies took either of those two in exchange for Pap, the fans would have every right to storm the park and burn it to the ground. It's going to take a fairly decent haul to get Pap back in return and if the Yanks are ok dishing that out, their farm would basically become non existent. Also, Pap can block trades to several teams, Red Sox being one of them. I suspect the Yanks are on that list as well.
  7. Yankees suck. That is all.
  8. Always thought McCann would end up in pinstripes. Perfect fit for them, personality wise. Thinks he's the ultimate arbiter of the game being played the way they did it 100 years ago... no showboating on the bases in NY this year or he'll go nuclear. Guarantee he loves not having any facial hair and being a clean cut self righteous ******* just like the rest of Yanks. f*** him and f*** them all. Here's hoping he hits .225 and they miss the playoffs anyway next year.
  9. Most fans, myself included, never had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Weiner. That said, his work as the MLBPA Exec Director speaks for itself, and the game would not be same without him. He was a tireless advocate for the players and to a man, they all spoke extremely highly of him. I wish his family nothing but peace and comfort in their time of sadness and loss. God speed and rest in peace.
  10. Was thinking the same thing. Don't see any scenario in which Puig is available. He pretty much single handedly turned their season around last year and has the ability to lock down one spot in their outfield for a very long time. Could he theoretically regress this year and become expendable? Sure... and monkeys could theoretically fly out of my ass... IMO he's untouchable and any speculation involving him right now (especially speculation that suggests WMB and Nava would be enough to get him!) is ridiculous.
  11. Even though I'd love to see the Sox be aggressive and make a few moves to bring in a top notch player or two this off-season, purely from a personal enjoyment of the off-season perspective, I think Cherington's line of reasoning falls more closely with yours. Obviously we can't stand pat and think we can repeat next season, but dumping a ton of cash in FA is not the way to go either. Best case scenario is being able to do some similar things to last off-season and sign several quality players for reasonable contracts that can help in positions of need. Bringing back Nap is a no-brainer. He wants to be here and we want him here. A deal will get done. As much as I'd prefer to move on from Salty, I think he comes back as well. I love what McCann brings to the table, but don't think he's worth the kind of coin he's reportedly seeking. As for replacing Ells in center, I like giving JBJ a shot, and bringing in an experience CF on a one year deal to help if he falters. Maybe Franklin Gutierrez if he's healthy... guy played pretty outstanding defense his whole career and could have a nice bat if he's not stuck in a pitcher's dream out in Seattle.
  12. I agree. Don't mind his power, but his inability to work the count and bring out ABs is not something I want to trade for. Especially since it's being reported that he would cost the Sox WMB and Doubront. No thanks.
  13. Looks like we have a multi-year offer out to Nap. Don't blame him for shopping a bit to see if anyone wants to go higher, but something tells me he's coming back. He absolutely loved playing in Boston and Fenway is built for a guy like him with ridiculous power to left and center field. Something around the original deal he signed sounds about right. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/napoli-to-explore-market-has-multiyear-offer-from-boston.html
  14. I'd be ecstatic to get Kemp, but I don't see why the Dodgers would think about dealing him given the seemingly infinite monetary resources at their disposal.
  15. I don't see us going after any of the above. Mostly due to monetary concerns, but most of the players listed have issues that would make me think twice before committing long term to them. I suspect we'll see the Sox re-sign Drew and Napoli, with Salty and Ells leaving to snag rich FA deals. Unless I'm mistaken, we really don't have a ton of money to spend, and I just don't see Benny dumping the long term plan to try for a repeat next year. No reason to think we won't sign one or two bench/role players that can come in and be a good fit with this club, but I doubt we'll see any blockbuster signings this off-season. Opening day defense should look something like this... LF - Gomes/Nava CF - JBJ RF - Vic 1B - Nap 2B - Pedey SS - Drew 3B - Bogaerts C - Ross SP - Lester Lineup with that crew should be... Vic Pedey Papi Nap Gomes/Nava Bogaerts Drew Ross JBJ Can't say it will be a replica of this year's offensive juggernaut, but I think it shakes out well from top to bottom with good hitters throughout and decent speed at the top and bottom. Losing Ells from the leadoff spot will hurt this team in the short term but we'll find a way to make it work or we'll bring someone in that can help replace him. I for one would like to see what JBJ does next season after getting a taste this past year.
  16. Sox played 178 games this year... they won 108 of them. 108-70 = .606 winning percentage Unbelievable. You couldn't have convinced me this would happen after how bad it got last season. f***.. I refused to watch or listen late last year with how bad it got. Couldn't stomach seeing or hearing that team take the field. Now they're champs. Just unreal. What a season. Thanks for such an amazing run.
  17. Peavy wasn't horrendous in game 3... he salvaged that inning when it was bases loaded and could have easily turned into a blowout. Instead the blue gave the game to the Cards in the 9th, but without him pitching himself out of that jam, the obstruction call never happens and this series would not have the same aura to it. People will remember this series for a lot of reasons, most notably that we won it, but game 3 will always be something people look at as one of the craziest ways a game can end. Also, he came it and completely fit in with the personality of this club and did what we needed him to do down the stretch. Pitch quality innings and put the Sox in a position to win more often than not. I've been a fan of his for a long time and I'm very happy he got his first ring here with us this season.
  18. Holy s***... what a bunch of f***ing losers. Hoping a Boston Marathon happens at Fenway? f*** that **********... hope he gets drilled by a semi on the way home.
  19. For real... really wish I could post more often but work makes it difficult. You guys that keep the mojo rolling all season long are the best!!!
  20. Just popped the champagne at my house.... tastes f***ing amazing. Aaagh!!!! No sleep for me tonight.... f*** yeah I love this team!!!
  21. I am in shock right now... just can't believe this turn around really happened. This team will live in lore forever.
  22. Here we go!!! 3 outs to go and then we f***ing party!!!!
