  1. Start early. @itsbrianbarrett Houck 1st time through the order .174/.296/.217/.514 2nd time through the order .318/.385/.500/.885 Huge gap!… not great if you are trying to make the case as a starter
  2. I believe that if the starts were random (that catchers weren't tied to a particular pitcher), CERA for McGuire and Wong wouldn't be dissimilar after a long stretch of time. When you look at really small sample sizes like we are now (Sale not pitching for years, early in the season, bad weather, different teams, bad luck, etc.), the numbers are effectively meaningless.
  3. Yes. Did you ignore the part where he said OPS was LOL random? That was hilarious. There's a reason that FanGraphs doesn't currently list CERA as a stat.
  4. It was fine. Need to see if Whitlock and McGuire can work well together too.
  5. @tylermilliken_ Jarren Duran’s first 3 games since being brought back up: 4-for-11 3 2B 2 RBI 1/1 SB 4/1 K/BB
  6. Let's check in and see how that outing went... After Taylor Broadway struck out two over four scoreless innings to open the contest, James Paxton struggled mightily in his third appearance (first out of the bullpen) for Worcester. The rehabbing left-hander got rocked for seven earned runs on five hits, two walks, and zero strikeouts in just two-thirds of an inning. Yuck!
  7. The article stats that the OPSa was RANDOM so they ignored the results in favor of CERA. LOL
  8. A fairer comparison IMO. Also, I don't remember a big furor over not re-signing Vaz.
  9. Are those 6 fans able to turn all those tv's on to get them into middle of the road status? Impressive work folx!
  10. And they are 9-10 right now? So close to those projections.
  11. Comparing a 3 year deal and a 5 year deal in this manner is kinda silly. Need to compare AAV.
  12. And give Whitlock's innings to McGuire.
  13. To do this, Woolner looked not at catcher ERA, but at batter OPS with and without the catcher, for each pitcher. He computed Z-scores, or standard deviations, to see if the observed differences in catcher/pitcher OPS were different from what one would expect by chance. He found the data looks almost identical to a bell curve; in other words, the differences observed among catchers appeared to be random. No kidding!
  14. Make Wong Kluber's personal catcher.
  15. I'd put the 'Canes popularity behind the Gators and the 'Noles. Gators might be the most popular team. Miami was more popular back in the day, but FSU and UF have a greater reach being public universities it seems, while Miami is a fairly expensive private one.
  16. "Easy in and out" depends on where you live in the area. That's the issue.
  17. That's what their fanbase believes.
  18. Jacksonville? Tampa doesn't work and Miami doesn't work, but you want to try Jacksonville?
  19. I thought Fernandez was one of the guys you were thinking of protecting on the 40 man?
  20. There are plenty of kids here that grow up liking the Rays and Marlins. We have to remember that those franchises didn't exist generations ago. People LOVE the Dolphins here (est 1965). If the Rays or Marlins had been around as long, their fanbases would also be much larger.
  21. Do you go to Astros games when they don't play the Red Sox? When I lived in LA, I went to as many Dodgers Stadium as often as I went to Fenway Park when I lived in MA. When I lived in SF, I went to SF games. Now, I'm 2.5 hours away from the closest stadium so it's not really the same.
  22. What if they build at new baseball stadium in a brand new city that doesn't draw any fans? Why not pull the Tigers out of Detroit and the Orioles out of Baltimore? Those teams aren't drawing either. The Rays consistently get better TV ratings that the Marlins. Move the Marlins?
  23. The New Englanders typically moved to the East Coast down 95 while Mid-West moves to the Gulf down 75. However, that doesn't prevent people from attending baseball games.
  24. 1. Verdugo RF 2. Tapia CF 3. Turner DH 4. Devers 3B 5. K. Hernández SS 6. McGuire C 7. Casas 1B 8. Duran LF 9. Valdez 2B
