I wouldn't have put him on the 40 man. I have the same question.
I'm not sure Chang is really a great depth option at SS long term. When Story goes down, the Sox were left with Kiké/Arroyo/MondesIL/Chang/Valdez as the "viable" options. That's got to be bottom 5 in the league for middle IF once you exclude Story.
It was a safe assumption McGuire was known as a good catcher and he had hit well with the Sox. Wong was a career MiLBer and wasn't even assured a roster spot. Sox brass liked Wong's receiving skills, but it would have been a big leap to assume that he'd win a starter's role in early April. There were people on here hoping for a McGuire/Alfaro rotation during ST!

Red Sox will have RHP Chris Martin make a rehab appearance Thursday in Worcester, with hopes that he’ll be activated this weekend. James Paxton will make another start for the WooSox on Sunday.
My guess is Bernardino would be sent down to WOO for Martin. Ort for Paxton when ready in early May?
El Paso is also one of the more hitter friendly stadiums in PCL which is a hitter friendly league. Maybe he's hoping for a stat bump that could get him a call up somewhere else?
He's the garbage time guy, but he needs to be at least competent enough to not force your closer to come in when you have more than a 5 run lead. Ort has options and will be the first sent to WOO once the next relief guy gets healthy.
I liked him as a reliever. His starter numbers weren't great. I didn't think it'd work out. I'm not sure if it will work out for him long term as he has a bad barrel rate and exit velo.
People liked Strahm. Sox didn't re-sign him because they didn't want to make a place for him in the rotation. Is he Rich Hill 2.0? Only time will tell.
"They HAVE TO reset because they went over last season" by stepping on an upside rake like a cartoon character and hitting themselves and buffoonishly costing themselves draft capital in a throwaway season...
I'm supposed to give them credit for going over last year now? No f***ing way...
No, I 1,000,000%$ believe they will NOT be in the top 5% in payroll next season.
I have no faith in John Henry. I am biased against him. I have been that way for a long time, but have heard lots of negative things about him running this franchise going back to last season.
This is a Tom Werner stan account. Werner wants to spend money, Henry doesn't. That is what I've heard. There's an ongoing push and pull in ownership between spending and not spending. Right now, we are in a not spending phase, which seems very clear to me. The FA moves the current Sox have made can be typified as RINKY DINK.
