  1. Bergeron has a nice little left hand there...
  2. They went to Pierce on the previous play and the officials bailed him out when the ball went out of bounds. Ray had a decent look. It just didn't fall.
  3. http://www.neshq.com/media/mag/basewars.jpg Looks nothing like George Kottaras.
  4. We'd have to select a DH? Pfft... And I'm totally going to forget my login over the next 5 years.
  5. No it's what someone says when they've actually watched someone pitch throughout a season and doesn't just pull numbers from the internet.
  6. After watching penny in LA the past two years, I have to say I'm not looking forward to the back of our rotation. He has great stuff, but has never really been able to put it all together. I just see the AL East hitting him really, really hard.
  7. (Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I didn't see anywhere else to ask the question.) By some stroke of luck, I'm drafting first in my fantasy league. I know all about the SS position scarcity, but should I take Pujols instead of Hanley Ramirez? My thinking: Pujols is just a monster. He's the most consistent baseball player of his generation. Last year, everyone was worried about his elbow but he still dominated. I know Hanley Ramirez gets a ton of steals (which may decrease since he'll be batting 3rd) and that he should have more RBIs this year, but I just don't know if I'm really sold on him.
  8. I think it's more hyperbole than prediction.
  9. I think people go out of their way to find reasons not to like the WBC. The sky isn't falling.
  10. I'm wondering if they only brought Bard in in case Tek didn't resign. Either way, I don't think there is that much of a difference between Bard and Kottaras.
  11. As for Gedman, his problems started during the 86-87 offseason when he wasn't allowed to sign with the sox until May 1. He struggled to regain his form afterwards and then dealt with injuries off and on for the rest of his career. That offseason really put him behind the 8 ball (thanks owner collusion!).
  12. Actually, he's shown that he's a true Boras client ever since he left Georgia Tech.
  13. And what if he has zero interest in "just being a coach?" I just think you can plug him in there for 3 out of 5 games this year and then 1 out of 5 games next year while still enjoying his leadership qualities.
  14. I'm not sure that Billy Beane is all that worried about it. I'm actually surprised that he hasn't made a run at Dunn too.
  15. http://www.boston.com/sports/ot/ Everything article on there is virtually unreadable. I can't believe anyone gets paid for that tripe.
  16. Except that having him around and helping to mentor his younger replacement for two years would be a great idea. Now we just need to actually find that other guy. Bard, Brown, and Kott aren't it. Right now, there isn't a better option than signing Tek.
  17. i feel like part of my childhood has been validated. while i've been to many great games at fenway (ortiz walk-offs, pedro martinez dominating the Guardians in his heyday), my most cherished memory is of rice's last game at fenway. if only i still had my "pitchers pay the price... when they face jim rice" trash can.
  18. Except that the A's couldn't even sell out playoff games when they originally had Giambi, Zito, Hudson, et al. The only reason he'd want to win now is to try to make the team a hotter commodity so that it could get out of Oakland sooner.
  19. Lowe isn't worth 16mil. He wasn't worth resigning in '05, he's not worth it now.
  20. You can cherry pick stats if you'd like. I just know from what I've seen. Shoulder surgery plus switching leagues plus a high WHIP isn't a player I'd be overly confident on. Also, "stupidly throwing a high amount of fastballs" is what most pitchers (cough cough Brad Penny) are used to throwing in the NL. (Remember, Schill had to develop a changeup when coming here.) He's pretty hard headed and would be reluctant to change. His off speed pitches aren't nearly as good as Beckett's.
  21. Well, that's the obvious problem. I like Drew, but I think our offense would do much better with Dunn's bat. Unfortunately, neither Bay nor Dunn is as solid in RF as Drew.
  22. How long is his deal for again?
  23. Well, I live in LA and have seen a lot of evidence to prove otherwise. Don't get me wrong, I hope he puts up CY Young numbers. I just don't see it happening. His big problem is that he overthrows and gets himself tired rather quick. He's got decent velocity and movement, but gets knocked around quite a bit. Remember, Josh Beckett had a long adjustment period before he settled in to life in the AL.
