  1. It's a fine comparison. Moon said he wasn't worth $2M. He was clearly worth well more than that at one point. If he's gotten past his vertigo/concussion issues, he could be a solid get.
  2. Signing JDM isn't very imaginative either.
  3. Signed with the Royals.
  4. Wouldn't be a terrible move. 636 OPS vs LHB. He was decent last year.
  5. According to fangraphs, he was worth $37M for 2014 - 2015.
  6. I'm not saying you'd get anything substantial for either of them, but you could help fill out your AA roster. Crappy players get traded all the time. I think Marrero would be very useful to an NL team that needs a backup IF with a good glove. Holt was a 2 win player in 14 and 15. He's a good buy low candidate for a team that has room for him.
  7. I think Marrero and Holt probably get traded before the season starts.
  8. Then let's not worry about the offseason and FA's since DD will take care of it.
  9. I'd get rid of Holt.
  10. If they turned it around and became a 95 win team without getting JDM, it wouldn't be too surprising. Maybe 2017 was just a down year? I'm not counting on it, but optimism this time of the year isn't a bad thing.
  11. Is there something else you'd like to talk about? We're all ears.
  12. I thought the phone bit was funny.
  13. It doesn’t affect JD at all.
  14. I bet his SLG would be much higher at Fenway than at McCovey Cove.
  15. Interrupting a news conference to complain about the official scorer’s ruling on an RBI.
  16. The best hitter should have the most opportunities to get ab’s. Helps when he runs well too!
  17. Finally, The Offseason has come back... to Boston!
  18. Media has more access than you or me.
  19. Sox were at the Lincecum workout. MiLB deal?
  20. Sure. Veterans tend to need less coaching that younger guys. Think of how many times JBJ got doubled up on a dumb base running play. When Victorino, Napoli, Gomes and Dempster came in during 2013, they really calmed the organization down (especially in April when Papi was out). He was really hands off. Once things went downhill in 2014 (typical post WS letdown), the younger players got more run and he just sat on his hands. They needed guidance. Sure, Betts played out of his mind in 2016. JBJ had very molten lava scorching streaks. Beni came up at the end of 2016 and went off. Devers came up and exploded on the scene in 2017. These things were great, but he just seemed unable to lead the young players to be more consistent and to be more aware of situational baseball. When you have a veteran team, you don't need to worry about it as much. With the young team, he needed to be more active in the day to day stuff, but he was largely hands off. Think of what happened when Price got upset last year. Farrell didn't do anything. He just let the players act on their own. That's fine with a largely veteran team because they can handle it in house, but not so fine when players like JBJ have a history of doing the same thing and not being spoken to. What kind of example is that?
  21. Farrell seemed to be a good manager for veterans. He seemed to lose it with the younger team last year that needed more direction.
  22. Better with an actively involved coach than a zombie? I'd hope so.
  23. @redsoxstats I think the over/under on Cashner's ERA against the Yankees and Red Sox this year is like 5.95.
  24. Cashner is being signed by the O's.
  25. He's also planning on more IF shifts and weird OF looks too. Those will be fun.
