  1. That's a different argument all together.
  2. It was his high school number, so maybe he liked it more than the other options. https://kronozio.com/card/bdd66d3a-45b5-4654-bd61-4902e7cd9e41/2014-Panini-Panini-Prizm-Perennial-Draft-Picks-Michael-Chavis-24
  3. Unless you are a trained scout, you should rely more heavily on sabremetrics.
  4. It screams "he's not ready, but is better than our other options so why not give it a shot" to me. But what do I know? I'm only right the vast majority of the time.
  5. I just really liked the Chavis interview after his first game. Seems like a real down to earth guy who knows how to game prep. Thumbs up from me so far.
  6. I'll be more concerned about Betts' contract if he's not extended by next April. For now, there are more important things to worry about. Sox can pay any price they want to for Betts.
  7. Spangenburg is 28 and hitting 191 in AAA this year. He also played 245 games over the previous two seasons which bumps up his stats a little (67 extra games). With Devers, you aren't looking to replace his current numbers, you are worried about his future numbers skyrocketing and you losing out on that value. You know this though. You're just picking a weird argument for arguments sake.
  8. But Leon IS ONLY IN AAA AND NOBODY WANTS HIM AND IS A NO GOOD POOPY FACE WHO IS FAT. Or something. 3-0 and counting since the trade.
  9. Tater time.
  10. JBJ's lowest fWAR in a season since being a starter is 1.9 in 2015. I think he'll end up in the 2's again by year's end. He is what he is: inconsistent bat, great glove. Sox got lucky that he heated up in the playoffs last year.
  11. He's young and cheap, so I agree that he's the most valuable trading chip. I wouldn't trade him, but yes he's the most valuable trading chip right now.
  12. I think they'll work it out this offseason. Xander and Sale's contracts were up first, so they got those done first. Makes sense to me.
  13. I believe I have tinnitus from that damn bell.
  14. 847 since the Swihart trade.
  15. Well, Pedroia played only 6 games and may not ever return to the lineup. Nunez is what he is, a guy slightly above replacement whose versatility is the sole reason he's on the club. I'm not sure bringing Chavis up is the "gamble" or "panic move" that people are saying it his. He's a guy that can hit in the minors. He's their top prospect and has nothing left to prove down there. His defense may never get better, so there's no issue with just bringing him up and see if he can stick. To me, a panic move would be bringing up Dalbec, Hernandez or Chatham today. Those guys need more time in the minors. Hernandez may be up later this season, which seems like an ok timetable for me. If Chatham gets a cup of coffee at the end of the year, it would make sense too. It would just be weird to bring him up right now. Feltman, Shawaryn and Lakins will also probably be up at some point and those guys are ready to contribute sooner than later.
  16. The bullpen seems ok to me? It certainly doesn't look like an Achilles Heel that people wanted to paint it as (EVEN THOUGH WE ONLY GOT RID OF KIMBRELL AND DUMPED JOE KELLY WHO SUCKED BALLS IN THE REGULAR SEASON ALMOST EVERY YEAR).
  17. There isn't a rush to pay Betts. He's here through 2020 at least.
  18. When 1.8 fWAR is basically 0 WAR... Ok...
  19. It's 4/22. Take WAR season stats with a grain of salt please. Extrapolated over the year he's about 2 bWAR.
  20. That's how horrible his stank is.
  21. Love to talk about WAR season totals on APRIL 22nd.
  22. Dbags were on a 4 game winning streak prior to the trade. 1-2 since.
  23. Naw, just too many peeps in his Easter basket this AM.
  24. @redsoxstats The last three prospects to double in their Sox debut: Bryce Brentz, Garin Cecchini, Will Middlebrooks
