  1. A pen with Houck and Whitlock would be pretty good.
  2. I agree that a large part of me not wanting Whitlock to be a traditional closer is that I don't want to mess with him. Maybe you can have him do a couple of 2 inning saves here and there?
  3. There's no use in having 3 long relievers. One of Whitlock, Richards and Perez should be the closer for the time being. It's not Perez. I think Whitlock has the stones to close out games even though his future is in the rotation. All the advanced stats lean towards Whitlock (Exit Velo, xwOBA, xSLG, Barrel, etc.). Richards' xwOBA since going to the pen has been great. His FB is about as straight as Schiraldi's, but he has a really good CB with an outstanding spin rate even after the crackdown. He's probably due for some regression with his bullpen numbers. I think I'm ready for the Garrett Richards experience. Let's do it.
  4. Whitlock last 5: 8.1IP, 37TBF, 7H, 4BB, 14K, 4ER, 1.32 WHIP, 4.32 ERA
  5. Perez last 5: 4.1IP, 23TBF, 8H, 0BB, 5K, 4ER, 1.86WHIP, 8.31 ERA
  6. Richards since going to the pen (3G): 8IP, 31TBF, 6H, 1BB, 10K, 1ER, 0.87WHIP, 1.13 ERA
  7. Ottavino last 5: 4.1IP, 22TBF, 4H, 6BB, 1K, 1ER, 2.32WHIP, 2.08 ERA
  8. Sawamura last 5: 3.1IP, 16TBF, 4H, 2BB, 4K, 2ER, 1.82WHIP, 5.40 ERA
  9. Austin Davis last 5: 4IP, 16TBF, 3H, 2BB, 5K, 2ER, 1.25WHIP, 4.50 ERA
  10. Josh Taylor's last 5 appearances: 2.1 IP, 14TBF, 4H, 3BB, 1K, 2ER, 3.04WHIP, 7.71 ERA
  11. @SoxProspects Another 2021 draftee is headed to Low-A, as 1B Niko Kavadas (11th rd out of @NDBaseball) has been added to Salem's roster. He was 5-for-21 with 2 2B and 1 HR, with 7 BB in a short stay in Fort Myers in the FCL.
  12. The problem with Robles: 1. bottom 3% in barrels 2. bottom 4% in exit velo 3. bottom 1% in hard hit 4. he has a tendency to tee up his 4 seamer and his changeup 5. his best pitch per advanced metrics is his slider, but he hasn't used it much this year and it only functions well because he barely uses it On the brighter side: 1. aside from his back to back meltdown on 8/5 and 8/6, he's gone 8 IP, 0ER, 5H, 7BB, 11K 2. his fastball velo is 92nd percentile
  13. I don't think they even need to phantom DL him. They had Valdez on this roster for a long time and barely used him. Just do that with Barnes.
  14. Don't discount Kutter Crawford. He's pitched very well this year and will be put on the 40 man this offseason. Not sure if they try to keep him as a long man or stick him in a short relief role. Not sure he'd be better than a 5th starter, but he couldn't be worse than Perez. Murphy gives up too many hr's and is probably destined for the pen if he can't fix it. Bello is far away. Winckowski and Seabold could provide something next year. Ward is out with TJS. Groome is still far away, but at least he's been healthy this year (if he pitches well in AA next year, maybe we see him as part of the rotation in 23). There's definitely some more interesting guys than we've had recently. You didn't mention Feltman, someone who has gotten a lot of press previously and now is under the radar. After giving up 3 ER in his first AAA appearance, he's gone 9.3 innings in his last 7 appearances and has only given up 1 ER, 4H, 10K, 2BB. He'll probably have a legitimate shot to be on the Opening Day roster next season.
  15. Without a bullpen, this is a team that could still win a few games in the regular season. Anything can happen in a one game Wild Card. Once they get into the playoffs, they'd get smoked though.
  16. I'm here for the softball league Red Sox. Don Baylor would be a great fit on this team.
  17. 162 games is too many games. Make the season 150 with more days off.
  18. Queue the annoying poster: But Old Hoss Radbourn averaged 412 innings per year, Barnes can't even throw a fifth of that and gets paid millions to play a kids game! Radbourn's 1884 season: 9.5 fWAR, 678.2 Innings, 59-12,75 G, 73 GS, 73 CG, 1 SV, 441K, 98BB, 1.38 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, 48 ERA-
  19. Pivetta vs Ober Ober is better than Jax, last night's starter. 2.81 ERA over his last 5 starts, 24K and 4BB. Twins best shot at not getting swept.
  20. I hate to say it, but he can't be worse than Barnes right now. I think Barnes should be given a rest and only thrown out there in low leverage situations.
  21. Because of last year's shortened season, there's been an assumption that more pitchers would break down this year (seems to have happened) and that some would run out of gas early (maybe happening with Barnes). Just because you don't think he should be tired, doesn't mean he's NOT tired.
  22. Shaw shoulda just retired, right guys?
  23. Also, I believe Duran will have to go down for 10 days. Not sure if he's eligible to return on September 1.
  24. Yes, if A = 3. Now, if that's the case, Barnes could have to face 54 A players at some point. Then he'd have to get 18 outs to get through 1 inning.
  25. Interesting when noting that moon stated Barnes needed to get 6 outs!
