  1. @brendan_camp Thaddeus Ward named Carolina League Pitcher of the Week. Luis Perales named Florida Complex League Pitcher of the Week. Stiwar Adames named Dominican Summer League Pitcher of the Week.
  2. The 29 AAV just wasn't what he wanted. It's not about the money at that point. He wanted the positioning among his peers He'd rather be the highest paid AAV player over 8 years.
  3. This team can't beat an AL East team in the regular season. What is going to happen in the playoffs? It's a waste to let these guys walk away for nothing.
  4. Sale is done for the year. Wacha is out. Hill is out. A good GM needs to weight the options. Is this a team that can win it all? If not, you don't play just to make a run at the playoffs.
  5. I mean, he chose to not be available for away games at a rival team. Seems like the criticism is warranted IMO.
  6. Isn't it more important to set yourself up for the future and stock pile your assets in the farm? I thought that was job #1 these days, not just running out the clock because some fans want to see Xander for 2 more months in a Red Sox uni?
  7. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/christian-walker-572233?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb I mean, I think he'd try to hit every single pitch over the monster.
  8. He has 2 more ARB years remaining and could make a good DH candidate or 1B platoon for a LHB if you had a young one of those coming up... He's an older guy with not much upside, but he doesn't present a huge HOME/AWAY split issue like some other guys.
  9. Grossman has been pretty bad this year. Pham is interesting, but seems to be bad for a different reason.
  10. Well, once they get Upton in the Snell deal, they should be ok.
  11. Easier gig than drafting for MLB. "Ahhh, but Keith Law's list of 500 guys had this player 100 spots lower! Bad pick!"
  12. Myers would get to play out the string and get some more playing time. It is a contract year for him.
  13. Franchy's last 5 games: 17 PA 0 H 1 RBI 0 BB% 88.2 K% -100 wRC+ (15 K's out of 17 PA's)
  14. He's definitely trending downwards with xwOBA. He started above water, but it's now like a stock market crash.
  15. 85th Hard Hit 85th Sprint Speed 79th Avg Exit Velo 82nd Barrel % He's still getting putting hitting the ball well... 5th Whiff% 12th OAA 4th K% when he's actually making contact.
  16. From outside the org? Stewart and Davis aren't great options. Mieses to see if his bat provides some sort of spark? Fitzgerald isn't hitting like April and can't play in Toronto.
  17. I'm not sure we see German this soon. More likely it's Kelly or Bazardo. Diekman and Valdez are easy DFA's IMO. Nothing to lose there. At least Sawamura and Brasier look ok as 7th/8th relievers.
  18. Also, we just like talking about this stuff because that bullpen is just underwhelming AF.
  19. That has never been MLB's trajectory, or for any professional sport. They don't cater to families. It's all about corporations and high dollar seats. Make up the losses with the high end product.
  20. There's just no way... is there?
  21. "An option going forward" as in 2023 and beyond. I think he's with the Sox through the end of this season no matter what. Better to have him try to hit out of funks like this. It's the only way he'll learn.
  22. With the injuries piling up, there is less of a reason to getting rid of guys. However, I think you can move on from Brasier and Sawamura and not really worry about it. They aren't long term high leverage options. You can get similar pitchers every offseason. They are the definition of fungible. I want guys like Ort, Kelly and Bazardo to get a shot.
  23. @HowieLongShort 70% of MLB clubs (21/30) have experienced an attendance decline this season and attendance at a league level is down 6%. Former Mets/Pirates exec Lou DePaoli says a 6% decline “equates to roughly 8 million less people going to games. That is concerning.” Expect more ticket increases to make up the shortfall.
  24. Unless you're at a baseball powerhouse where you're already slotted into a certain role and they don't want you to be a two way player. I would assume that most of the best SS prospects at least pitched a little in HS.
  25. If he hasn't turned it around by then, he's not an option going forward anyway.
